Thank you Dirt Farmer! I was curious how soon you can tell how good the penciling will be? I was looking at buying a couple started birds and I'd like to be able to know if they are good quality or not. :)
I hear ya! I've been lucky with my hatches. Only one "breeder" was clueless on how to ship and I only hatched 6 from 14 which is a terrible rate.

I can definitely understand the reasoning that once eggs are out of someone's hands they lose control of quality but, to your point, even if I buy superior started birds and hatch their eggs I will have the same issues of not all birds being great quality.
Part of being a responsible breeder...

Is 5 weeks too young to tell gender in Buff Brahmas? In some breeds I can tell but I'm new to BB and am hoping I have a girl in this group of 4. I am fairly certain the Black Australorp is a cockerel but the Brahmas have me stumped. Too soon?
