I haven't had a problem with Brahma hens.... I haven't had a good rooster

But with chicks, if you are actually adding chicks, they need a broody to adopt them. Without a broody to adopt them, I wouldn't even try to add them in until they are at least half the size of the adults.
Thanks...not chicks really, but the 6 - 8 week olds that are ready to go to the pen. I agree that putting them under a broody is the best option, just sometimes there aren't broodies around that cooperate with the timing!

I haven't had the ability to eat one of my chickens yet. It is certainly coming, my husband will only allow me to have so many. I don't normally fry chicken, I like them in the crockpot. Don't know if I can eat one that I've named though. I'm still trying to face the fact that I bought a calf 8 months ago that is soon to be in the freezer. :(

Find a local butcher that will do them and send a batch in at once. Can't tell which is which when they're cleaned and in a freezer bag.

Hello you Brahama lovers

.

I have just decided to get some Brahma hatching eggs, but are turning out to be quite hard to tack down.
I will only be raising a few chicks ( ornamental ) and raising a few roosters for the pot.

Are Brahma's even good for cooking? I understand they are dual and are huge birds.
Also, what age would a rooster be ready for processing?

Thanks is advance, Lucas.

Bantams or large fowl? I hate to say it because I greatly treasure everything Mr. Urch has done for purebred poultry, but I had ~15 Dark Brahma Bantam chicks from him last year and every single one of them had Vulture Hocks. Just my experience and he may have dealt with the problem, but just a word of caution.
Oh dear! I've order LF DB for later in the spring. I only have one pullet and really want more. Do you have suggestions of where I could go for good stock?

Large fowl you're fine. Urch is good people
Oh, I mis-understood. SOOOO happy

We are really looking forward to adding to our flock! Our DB rooster is the sweetest thing. I can't bear to have him penned up in a breeding cage. We love having him out to run up and greet us. He waddles around next to us and eats very gently from our hands or even from pinched fingers. Our hens are all greedy and will nip fingers but he never does.

Hey Tim, or anyone else on here that might know, who is the Brahma club director for my area (Washington State)?

I'm pretty sure its Chris Tamayo. He is the director for the area that includes California, I think that is the district Washington state is in. I'm "pretty sure" because our website seems to be down? Sorry.

Tim
