Australians - Where are you all????

There are a number of backyard poultry forums located in Australia. Nostress is on one of them. I don't know if she has a username here, sorry. There are a number of differences between the Australian Standards and the American Poultry Standards. The laced wyandottes also have some slight...

Australians - Where are you all????

Australia is a big place and I don't know where you are located but the BYP directory has five brahma breeder listings. There is also a breeder on the Backyard Poultry forum living in the South East Qld area that has brahma or will know some contacts if you message her. Her username is nostress.

Australians - Where are you all????

Yes, it's not unusual to see effects a little after the heat. If they are weaker or a bit low after brooding or a heavy moult they will be less resilient. A heat wave can stop them laying completely, but the heavy panting to keep cool affects the blood chemistry and has results such as low...

Australians - Where are you all????

Hi, Shell-less eggs can be result of excessive heat. I don't know where you live in Australia but at the moment we are having very hot weather in Queensland and chickens do not do so well if they are heat-stressed. Shell-less eggs can be a result. What's the weather been like where you are?

Australians - Where are you all????

Avitrol Plus is off-label for chickens, like many other things. The reason is that they haven't spent the money and collected the residue data for withholding times etc. In practice, a lot of backyard chicken owners use it safely. The Mavlabs Scientists advise off the record that you should...

Australians - Where are you all????

I've used both of those - good for round worms. Neither of them will do tapes, but you can get a Worm-enda Plus that has Praziquantel added and will do them. Depends if you need that or not. I buy sheep drench in bulk, but I have lots of birds.

Australians - Where are you all????

If you want to do tapeworm you can use something with Praziquantel in it. They usually have 'plus' on the end of the name - like Moxidectin Plus or Avitrol Plus. Usually no witholding times - that's at your own discretion. Some recommend five days, some say two weeks.

A gold laced dotte that I showed recently. A few from the blue laced gold pen: As you can see - not perfect. You'd find better examples if you tried I'm sure. Mine are a work in progress.

Australians - Where are you all????

Mine are Blue Laced Gold, not Blue Laced Red. The Blue Laced Red are in development by a couple of breeders in Australia but not 'out there' yet. The ones being created have been made from blue laced gold with added rhode island red to give the darker mahogany red, rather than the paler gold...

Australians - Where are you all????

Hi there. I have a pen of mixed blue laced and gold laced. All gold based, but three different possible outcomes in lacing - Black, blue or what we tend to call splash which is a double dose of blue - looks like a white lace with a bit of leaky black here and there. Fertility is only at...

Australians - Where are you all????

I have gold laced and blue laced. It's hatching season at the moment, so not too many around for sale. They need a few months growth yet. I am breeding them for show, but any that are close to show quality I keep. It the seconds that I will sell, so they are backyard quality.

Australians - Where are you all????

It's nice to see some familiar characters in this thread, even if they have different usernames. I am from Queensland and I like to breed light sussex, wyandottes, polish and sebastopol geese.

Australians - Where are you all????

It sounds like something may have been lost in translation there. I'm sure he is a wonderful teacher, but Australia is still Australia. I'm sure someone would have told us if it wasn't.
