Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

So funny you say this. I have the best farm dog. GPxlab. When I was overrun with coyotes and shopping for a second dog, I wanted one just like him. What I was finding was GPx herding dog. Poor dogs had to be so conflicted. I couldn't envision how you would approach it's training. Your...

I would still call him a Brabanter but he does have some real problems. The problem I see with Brabanter right now is there is so little to work with we have to pick our battles while we work to improve the birds. I'd like to see more quality birds imported to speed up the process.

Mine have also been my best winter layers so they will make up for the slow start.

22 weeks is on the early side for most breeds except hybrids. I wouldn't expect eggs for another 3-4 weeks.

Just call her. Her # is on there. The maran page is from 2013 and the rest are from last year so the only way to know what she has for sale is to call. I think Sandhill Preservation started with her birds. They don't have anything available until late summer.

http://handhpoultry.com/index.html Her website is out of date. Seems like half the world's websites are out of date. She shipped to CO so I'm betting she ships anywhere in the lower 48.

H and H is somewhere in Texas. She's been breeding brabanters over 10 years. She used to only ship eggs but it looks like she's doing chicks now too. I've gotten guineas from her before.

I have trouble with that eBay seller making the claims they are just based on normal chicken keeping, 100% clean eggs? That sounds like they were washed.

It seems like most of the small breeders are pretty bad about updating their websites regularly. Not the best for business. H and H appears to have the largest flock of breeding brabanters out there. You will end up with eggs from different hens covered by different roosters. The chances...

Anything to get us down the road faster. Has a Brabanter standard been presented to the APA? There is no US club to advance it so is it up to the individual breeders to move the issue forward? That could be fraught with problems. http://www.bkuclub.nl/rassen/brabanters/goud-zwartgetoept...

I think we all agree. I have yet to find a comprehensive Dutch breed standard. If someone has one, please post it. What I have found (Dutch) is less than 6 points for the breed. Some of the points are lost in translation and need pictures to cement what they are trying to convey. The British...

So this is April's standard from 5 years ago. It's probably more refined now but this is a place to start. It would also help to have pictures to go along with the text.

I'm not going to hold one value as a higher importance. To get them to the SOP, every characteristic is important. I would think getting the correct spangling is probably the hardest thing thing to correct so that will have more weight in the beginning. All the pictures of stock online have...

So who is breeding the best brabanters now? I have 2 creams and 2 golds. One of each is decent enough to work with (they came from the feed store so I do not know the breeder but would like to step up the quality right from the start). I'm not set on one color over the other but this is one...
