We're just making sure she's nice and healthy and grown until she decides to join her duckie friends in the wild. 😊 If she decides to stick close to home, (which I hope she will) we'll build her a little outside house and look into a permit.
Thank you so much for saying so! That makes me feel better! She is the sweetest, cuddliest little thing. I wish my other two (Australian spotteds) would be friends with her already, but I think mating season has a lot to do with the way those two are acting at the moment! I felt like such a bad...
They grow so fast! Jackie is already so big! I'm starting to get anxiety about the other two not feeling like they're ready to socialize yet, though. The drake is really just busy being a mating stud and very much into protecting his woman. It's basically impossible up separate him and Hemmie...
Jackie's growing like a weed! Yaaay, because I know that's not likely for an orphan/rescue. I'm pretty sure she's a girl, which is also great, because I know Downey considers himself the little man of the house. She and the other ducks are aware of each other, and watch each other from their...
My two Australian spotteds can fly as well. Luckily for me, they know where home and food are and aren't interested in being elsewhere! Jackie is eating, drinking, and pooping like a champ, so he/she is very healthy. I really hope the other two will accept him/her, but I can at least make sure...
Jackie is doing well! No idea where he/she came from. Haven't seen a mother wood duck with babies anywhere! I think Jackie must have been a late hatch that managed to make it because it's so hot and humid in Alabama. Maybe. It's a mystery! I have tiny little Jackie in a separate brooder space...
The lady at the wildlife rescue said she didn't see any problem with keeping it. It is the sweetest little chick. I'm just a bit nervous, I guess. I love Downey and Hemmie so much, as y'all know, and I don't want them to be stressed. I want the baby to be happy, too.
I may look into that! It was too late to call them yesterday afternoon, but I can give them a call today. I'll be sad to see him go, because he's the sweetest little thing, but I love the two babies I have and it may be better for them. I'll keep you updated!
Cool, that's what I was thinking. Hemmie has been working on her nest for months, so I think she'll warm up to the little one. Downey will be happy as long as he doesn't feel like his woman is being threatened, lol. I'm letting them look at and listen to each other, but always with them...
Well, this was unexpected! This little guy was in our neighbor's yard all by himself this morning for hours, peeping. We think he was a late hatch and his fam is already gone, and after a day of searching for his mom and/or fam, I think he might just join us. Downey and Hemmie are almost a year...
