I apologized to one of the young people I worked with. "Simon, we are leaving you a really crappy mess. My generation could have turned it around, and we didn't. I'll probably be dead before the bottom really falls out, and you and your descendants will have to deal with it. I'm sorry."

I recently read that olive oil is another "often faked" food, like honey. Do you have a brand you recommend?

:lau:lau:lau Hubby and I are Coke drinkers. When we go to a restaurant and ask for Coke, and the waitress says, "Pepsi ok?" we say, "No. But oh well." Or order something different. Kind of like twins... they look similar, but are not interchangeable.

When I was a kid, it was more about the sugar. Now it's DEFINITELY about the chocolate.

You have real honey. Honey is often cut with corn syrup/high fructose corn syrup. Real honey is expensive and time consuming to procure. Syrup is cheap to make. Cut your honey with some syrup, charge as if it were all honey. Yeah, it's all about the money. I buy my honey from my "bee guy,"...

Does anyone remember something called "Tofurkey?" It was a tofu-based "turkey product," marketed around Thanksgiving, to vegetarians and vegans. It seems someone had the bright idea that "they were missing out on part of the Thanksgiving tradition of eating turkey." I worked with a young man...

I start getting suspicious about ingredients that I can't identify as being something I'd want to eat. From the back of the bottle of Italian dressing, for example: "Calcium disodium EDTA (to protect flavor)." Yes, I know they add stuff like this for shelf life. But what is it? What does your...

Yes! When the scoby hotel is full, I pull out a few, cut them up, and mix them with the chickens' afternoon mash snack.

If anyone is interested in brewing kombucha, but doesn't know anyone with a scoby (the "mother"), PM me and I'll tell you how to grow your own.

Good to know, thank you. I have some grains in the freezer. Somewhere. I make my own kombucha, but do about 3 gallons a batch, every other week. I can drink the entire batch myself in two weeks. The chickens get extra scoby pieces every now and then.

Thanks for the information. The chemical PFAS is very prevalent in Michigan. I have not had my water or soil tested, as if it's there, I'm stuck with it. We're not moving.

PFAS is in a lot of people's wells in the Grand Rapids, MI area, about 35-40 miles from me. A tannery dumped a lot of their waste (leather treated with waterproofing chemicals containing PFAS) not far from homes.
