Massad Ayoob is one of the best lecturers and speakers I've ever heard.

    The Gun Thread

Yesterday, I got a piece of mail hand addressed to me (rare, nowadays) from a name and address I didn't recognize. In it, I found pictures (photos printed on Kodak paper, even) of me and Massad Ayoob at the first class I ever took from him. A woman was going through her deceased husband's...

@BigBlueHen53, I had to cull two cockerels that had become terrors to the girls. I caught each one in a fishing net. I took them to a sandy spot of dirt, put a .22 revolver to the back of the head, and fired. The bullet exited the bird and went safely into the dirt. Contact shot, so you can...

There was a guy at the local club who brought his Desert Eagle to shoot the centerfire match at a club 2700. He was shooting to my right, and moved to the far end of the line when we got to Centerfire. I could still feel the concussion every time he shot.

Learn everything about shooting, except recoil. And, it's free!

Yup. Both have their place. I like dry firing my bullseye gun with the red dot. I can see just how still I hold, or not. And how smooth my trigger pull is, or not. Then I get out my ball gun (iron sight .45 bullseye gun) and do the same exercise. I usually hold the ball gun more steady after that.

Red dots will spoil you, won't they? They will also show you just how still, or not, you can hold your gun. :)

And that is exactly it. The pressure curve of the recoil is sharp and "snappy."

I won a gun at an IDPA match. Not by winning the match, but winning the raffle. It was a .40 cal, and that is one caliber that physically hurts me to shoot. So I did sell that one. But the rest of my guns go to people who will understand what they are worth, and not just monetary worth.

Yes, that is Ed in the pictures! What a wonderful man he was! Even though I haven't shot a match in over a decade, and we had a few years when money was TIGHT, I told my hubby, no way am I selling my Masaki guns (or any guns). I would never be able to buy them back, and we can find another way...

Wow, have prices gone up! I paid $3K for my .45 (with scope and 3 tuned mags), $3K for my ball gun (with 3 tuned mags), and I think the Marvel was $2500. But this was... let's see... about 20 years ago. The warrantee has expired on them. Ed Masaki said they had a lifetime warrantee... his...

I think by that time I had a Masaki Marvel conversion. That kept the grip consistent through all of my guns.

I think I averaged around 15 seconds on timed fire. I had a certain physical cadence I tried to do for timed, a different one for rapid. Since timed was the easiest, I took advantage of the time to shoot the best score I could. My personal best Nation Match Course (1 each, slow, timed, rapid)...
