In my last three hatches, about a third of the chicks piped on the small end, but they all hatched out okay. I set the eggs on their sides, and turned until the last day (because I forgot when I set them). It could be because they were laid flat, and turned until the last day that they...
I have an Mini Advance and two Octagon 20 Eco. I love the mini advance because it requires little "management" from me. I just set it, and fill it with water every few days, and that's pretty much it. The Eco requires daily turning, although I haven't tried incubating without turning to see...
Just to report back on the first staggered hatch I've done. Great outcome - 100% hatch rate for both sets of eggs in my mini advance, three eggs each set hatching a week a part. The second set of eggs took a day longer to hatch, I think due to the higher humidity because I filled both sides of...
Trying to stagger eggs for this first time today with my Brinsea Mini Advance with my own eggs, three at 8 days and four new ones - replacing the four that were not fertile. I'll use my Eco 20 as the hatcher come hatch time. We'll see how this works out.
My first Eco 20 was purchased used from a BYC member. It was missing the cap over the temperature adjuster and a couple of the dividers, but it worked fine. I later bought another new one from Brinsea, and there's no difference between the two in terms of performance. I later lost the cap to...
I've had this happen to me once. Turned out it was my fault. I have a ECO 20, and I had opened it to add water. Somehow I didn't align the top/lid with the base and left a gap. Without the top being fitted to the base, the incubator couldn't reach/maintain the set temperature. After closing...

Hatch rates of 90% and 100% are incredible. This means the eggs have to be all fertile to begin with, in addition to perfect incubating techniques. Wow!
That's pretty creative using the egg carton cups to hold the eggs. How's your hatch rates with the manual turns? I try to avoid handling the eggs during incubation as I am told that could decrease hatch rate.
I love my mini advance, much prefer it over the Eco. I started with the Eco, but got the Advance for small egg batches and find it much easier to use. I think I have better hatch rates too with the Advance.
I am one who tries not to open the incubator during lockdown. But if some hatches on day 20, and others later, would it be okay to take the early hatchlings out if there are no pipped or zipped eggs?
I unglugged my Eco to move it into the bathroom to candle the eggs before LD. Then I forgot to plug it back in for an hour. Was any harm done? I am so mad at myself. The temp was 92 when I plugged it back in. I only noticed because the temp reading was so low!
Do you adjust the temperature during a hatch? I find that the temperature creeps up a little as the hatch progresses. I think this is due to the eggs generating heat as they grow. Should the temperature be adjusted down to compensate?
