@Josh L. agreed! Ducks are way more stressful. (hope you are ok from the hospital scare!)
I ended up with 10 Call ducks, plus one more still in ICU, hopefully it survives.
Its a good thing they are so cute. They sure can make a mess in no time! lol
Looks like plenty of room to zip, as long as it doesn't pip right into the tape. Hopefully you will see it if that happens and may just have to assist a little. :fl
How bad is it, under the tape? Would it be possible to peel off the duct tape and replace with something else? Skinny strips of scotch tape? Glue? Wax? Paper/fabric tape?
I found the neatest tool for a safety hole, it's a diamond tipped dremel bit. Finger twist it, and as soon as it punctures the shell, I can feel it and stop. I make sure the membrane is pierced with a straight pin.
x2. For me it depends on the breed. Seramas i will usually assist at about 18 hours, because they have less air and are more inclined to give up. Call ducks also commonly need assisting. Air cell size is a factor for me. If it's already large, I may give them longer. if it's on the small side...
YOUR piggies?????? :wee
In other news, I have one external pip in one Brinsea, and hear another gotta-be-female call duckling peeping very loudly in the styro hatcher. I can candle thru the windows and see several internal pips.
Liz-duckling is still in the other Brinsea at low humidity...
:fl
I've had success with that paper-like medical tape. I also lost 2, not long ago, that a broody had cracked. I brought them in and taped, but they quit.
The ones that have survived, I peeled away any area that might get in the way of a zip, and left the rest of the tape. So if it makes it to...
Thanks. I guess we'll see in a few days.
I took a video last night. I'll get a freeze frame of the area later. Kinda interesting though huh.
A thought, this could have been an egg that laid outside for an extra day (or more), since they tend to hide eggs, some days i find ones from previous...
Not shipped. My Call eggs.
It does seem like a turning issue, but i hand turn these. They are in rows. I pick up one from one end, roll the whole row to the empty space, insert the first one back at the other end. So they all travel across the bator at one time or another, and all get rolled...
This is like one whole side of the egg, from air cell to pointy end! There may be some blood vessels near the point that go all the way around, but I've never had an area this large. I'll get a pic. I don't have very high hopes for it.
Have any of you ever had an egg develop, but the CAM not fully develop and leave a large clear area on the side of the egg??
I have one this happened on, but there is still very strong movement inside. I have expected it to quit for the last week, but it's still going strong. Although the embryo...
