Um.... like opening and closing the mouth, over and over. Like trying to swallow. Or yawn.

So it hadn't broken the membrane on its own yet?? Those are tough to save.... But always worth a shot. Do not pull it out of the shell. Leave it in the incubator where it can breathe, and you can monitor. Keep any exposed membrane moist. Watch for "chewing" motion. That usually means...

Any more smacks on the shell, or just the one? x2 :highfive:

You’re positive it was independent movement of the duckling, and not from you jiggling the egg? I’m sorry, I’ve never seen one with that much clear/yellow area and lack of veins still be alive this late in the game. Does it look that yellow in person? I also don’t see any drawdown, so if...

You already have a safety hole, right? I think I'd lay it down with the bruise upward, air cell slightly elevated. Is it internally pipped thru the membrane into the air cell? If yes, and if over 24 hours, you may want to consider removing part of the shell - just over the air cell only. If...

Awesome. I really think that your temps were low and it’s just going to be one of those delayed sets that take forever. :(

Depends on where the bruise is. Can you post a picture of it? Usually a bruise is caused by moisture getting between the inner and outer membranes.

I’d put a safety hole in any that have internally pipped for over 24 hours. What’s up with the one you already put the safe hole in?

Best to leave them alone now, so the humidity stays as constant as possible.

The safety hole is just in hopes that it continues to progress on its own, so hopefully you won’t have to assist. Now you just don’t have to worry about it running out of air with the small air cells. :)

I’d just wait them out. I’m a hands-on hatcher too, rather get them hatched first, whatever it takes. Just be aware that delayed hatches can end up with developmental problems, so still consider what could happen if you would need to euthanize one, or extended care, etc. Not trying to scare...

    Please help!

Sometimes, especially when they haven’t lost enough moisture and air cells are small, we see a lot of “clear” area, not filled by duckling. This “goo” can cause a really sloppy hatch, and can impede breathing, depending on where everything is positioned. So keep a good eye on that one...

Yeah for a pip! :clap Keep the humidity up now, anywhere from 65-75% is fine, just NO condensation or dripping. Now mark the time down. Ducks take for-e-ver! Could be any time between now and 40+ more hours before it fully hatches! It will likely pip again (maybe even 2-3 times) but should...

First candling pic looks good to me. It should pip any time now :) It’s fine to lay it on its side now. The others appear to be further behind. I agree with the others, probably warm/cooler spots in the incubator. Not much you can do now but wait. I would not mist them at this point...
