Please help. Did my embryo die?

Nope, that's fine. And since that's the case, it probably is a REALLY big blood vessel. I like to turn the eggs a quarter turn every few days. It helps with blood vessel development all the way around the air cell. Be very gentle with this one, though. The bigger the blood vessel, the...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

You're incubating the eggs on their sides? Looks like a blood ring to me. But wait and see.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

With the yolk like it is, it's probably best to keep him in restricted quarters. What say, @RavynFallen?

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Too high a humidity is my prime suspect in sticky hatches. Both too high and too low are problematic. Best is to follow the air cells against charts for the species you are hatching. The "right" amount tends to be lower than what the manual calls for. At hatch, though, from first pip to...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Fingers crossed for his success! I know how stressful it is to go through this. Congratulations, and good luck!

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Keep on what you are doing. There is no easy way. But good news is that he looks ready to come out, so keep peeling back shell and outer membrane a bit at a time and use the warm, moist towel to loosen the membrane so he can move.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Agreed, I think he can be declared stuck. Those yellow crystals indicate that he is going to be glued in with what is half-jokingly referred to as "gorilla snot" that when it dries is like epoxy. Ravyn is our waterfowl specialist. But when it's time to help, you will need a bowl of warm...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

It sounds like he's getting closer. Just tap on the incubator, no reason to open at this time. Keep interacting with him when he's awake, but when he's asleep, let him nap. He needs his strength. Next step he SHOULD start working sideways. I fear that he's a bit stuck and may not be able...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Absolutely. But it all comes down to timing. I prefer to never interfere (aka "assist") because the varieties I hatch should hatch readily if I hold up my part with correct incubation and hatching conditions. But, being human and relying on machinery, it's an imperfect attempt. I do lose a...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

I know with my turkeys if they get stuck they look like a sewing machine all bound up. The beak goes in and out but it does not go around, and they will do bursts of yelling "HEY! Get me outta here!" Then and only then will I interfere, chipping at the edge of the pip and pulling the membrane...

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Has he opened the shell any farther? Is he talking, gasping, or struggling? Have you posted to the goose thread? I wish I could help more but I've only hatched chickens and turkeys, the timing is different and the indications of hatch readiness and distress are likely to be quite different.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

I've never seen a goose hatching before. That is so cute! Yes, they can be very quiet, especially if they don't have anyone to talk to. As long as there is breathing and movement, then things are probably right on schedule. I'd say it will probably start zipping and hatch out pretty soon.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

That's how they roll. They start breathing air, and finish absorbing yolk and shut down the external blood supply.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

It looks like good hatching humidity. Make sure the ventilation is open and give him or her all the time it wants! May be 24 hours or more but that is a big pip so may be sooner. As long as you see it working at it and don't hear shrill distress cries, let nature take its course.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Goose eggs do have an incubation protocol beyond the normal chicken and turkey incubation, including cooling and misting. I can't advise on that, having never incubated goose eggs, but it seems the humidity may be a bit high and it doesn't look good for that egg.

Please help. Did my embryo die?

The air cells look really, really small for 14 days into incubation. What humidity level are you using, and what type of incubator?

Please help. Did my embryo die?

Are you candling into the air cell? (sorry, it's not real clear in the photo). If you shine the light into the air cell, you will see the blood vessels if they are present and active. Watch for spontaneous movement as well.
