    Hen with diarrhea

I'm sorry that she is not doing well :hugs The only way you might be able to find the cause would be to have a necropsy performed if you happen to lose her. You can send the body to your state lab or if you feel you can do it yourself then that's something to consider doing. Look in the...

    Hen with diarrhea

Do you provide a source of grit? If the crop is still hard and not moving much, I would only provide wet feed - no corn. You want easy to process foods right now. I would work on her some more - start with the oil, then massage and go from there.

Looking more closely at that poop...is that mucous or ? I do see what looks like a bit of intestinal shed as well. I would probably go ahead and treat for worms. You can get Safeguard (Fenbendazole) at Tractor Supply. Dosage is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally for 5 days.

This chicken has an impacted or slow crop. Switching feed is not going to help clear up the problem. It's up to you if you want to switch feeds - feed is a personal preference. I use an all flock/flock raiser feed for my flock it's 20% protein - I feed this to just hatched to the old and...

    Hen with diarrhea

No I would not use Ivermectin. If you can get the material to break up with massaging, then try a bit more oil, massage for about 5-10minutes. Let her have water, no food. In a couple of hours check the crop again. Let us know what it's like then.

If you massage the crop, can you feel the material in there break up or loosen?

    Hen with diarrhea

So she's not really pooping at all now? I would make sure she's drinking well. I wouldn't worry about food too much if the crop is still hard and she's not pooping. Have you ever wormed her before?

    Hen with diarrhea

I would continue to try to work at massaging the crop. Coconut/olive oil - see if you can manipulate or start breaking it down. She could have a blockage lower that is prohibiting the contents from emptying. Is she pooping?

    Hen with diarrhea

Yes, that's the right stool softener. You would give her 1 liquid gel, that's it. The 1cc at 3 times a day is probably for yeast cream which you would use if the crop is sour.

    Hen with diarrhea

Make sure it's says stimulant free and it's just stool softener - you do not want laxative. It's usually better if they don't eat for a day if the crop is hard and impacted, but if you feel she needs something I would give her a little wet soupy feed or a bit of scrambled egg. If the crop is...

    Hen with diarrhea

You can try the stool softener. If today is the first day you tried oil, then you may want to give her a bit more this evening before roosting. Massage the crop for several minutes, careful not to push the contents into her airway, then re-check again in the morning. I have had results with...

    Hen with diarrhea

No, I would not give Milk Of magnesia. Crop issues can take days to resolve. Is it still hard? If it's hard, have you massaged the crop after giving oil to see if you can start to break up what's in there? Sometimes, there is more going on besides a crop issue - an underlying condition can...

    Hen with diarrhea

Nice coop and run! Check her crop first thing in the morning before she has had anything to eat/drink - it should be empty or flat. If it's still full, then she's got a crop issue - read the article below and let us know if this is part of her problem...

    Hen with diarrhea

Can you post some photos of the hen and housing? Taking a sample of poop to your vet for testing would be a good idea. In the mean time, I would give her a small amount of white rice with buttermilk to see if that helps with the loose stools.
