    Making your own feed

I did not think either of the two really knew what they are doing. The second one was the one I made comments on. She started spouting 30% protein and I was like wow, that's high! So I set to the spread sheet to verify what she was saying and it fell flat out wrong. I was calcing just short of...

    Making your own feed

@rjohns39 I was actually thinking about using large amounts of fish meal to replace soy for protein figuring it was closer to bugs, until you posted. So are the percents you posted maximums? I PM'd you the link for the spreadsheet. It is a .odf for LibreOffice and should open right up in Excel.

Yes, the stuff like Fertell calls out .03# of Nutribalancer per pound of feed. So my mix idea of 200# costs $9 and when you add Nutribalancer is become $15 and this is only 16% feed. That makes homemade layer feed almost as expensive as meat bird pellets. The chicken minerals are crazy...

    Making your own feed

No one has a suggestion or comment? I am assuming this is probably as well rounded as any commercial mix and vitamin coming from natural sources and not artificially added. I was considering the 21% layer as a standard and feeding it to the standard heritage birds I might raise next year as...

If any of you want to work on this and review I am willing to share my spread sheet through e-mail or Google Docs. I would be interested in getting feed back and input from others that might have more experience with chicken feed. It does not let me attach an .ODS file here you all could import...

Here is an update of what I did with Protein, fat, fiber and calcium. The fish meal pellets really add protein, fat and calcium better than most. A lot of it can be found here. Use the links on the right for different feed. [EDIT] Excel formulas were wrong, deleted picture.

    Making your own feed

I am good at math and spreadsheets make it easier. I think this is well rounded, Alfalfa is like high value browse, fish simulating bugs and all the grains of 4 kinds. I spent the day reviewing feed people make. Some add calcium and nutri-balancer but I can drop ostershell if they need it. I...

    Making your own feed

Ok some of you all review this and tell me thought on this. Trying to make a high protein layer feed and eventually a meat bird feed. I just got the prices from the feed store today. Soy and fish meal are high in protein and alfalfa adds greens if they aren't free ranging.Soy is meal, fish and...

I watched this video and then I hit excel. I posted a question on her video about the protein percents she talked about and I did not get what she said at 30% or even close. #1 16.6# of Soy to 50# wheat, oats and corn and I got 14.89% and 166.6# of feed $0.19 a pound #2 25# of Soy to 50# wheat...
