Well the loss is just as awful. I never thought about a hen as a duck because I usually have just chickens. I find it odd he'd do that to the girls????

OMG--that is awful. My ducks never seem to bother my chickens. OTOH my chickens don't hand around the pond.

I think it helps that it is a deep pond, over four feet deep. I made it for Koi but most were eaten by a Heron. I do keep a filter running, and I think the waterfall helps to put air in the pond. I also believe that the plants help keep it clean. I am not an expert but I do enjoy the pond...

Right now I have a duck pond but no duck house. She won't go inside the dog house I tried but goes inside the chicken coop with the chickens every night. I figure it's safer for her anyway. But she loves her pond.
