Thanks for the help, guys, but Opal died a few hours ago. I took her outside before she passed so she could feel the sun on her and hear her flock mates one last time. She didn’t wake back up.
I don’t know if it’d even be worth it at this point, she seems so far gone. She barely responds to anything and if she does open her eyes, she closes them again. The fluid I gave her at 11 is still in her crop and she aspirated on me when I picked her up a little bit ago.
Yeah, I gave her more fluids than anything. I don’t have any baby bird formula, but I do have calf & goat milk replacer, but I think that’s a bad idea for birds.
I tried putting the mash in the syringe, but it wouldn’t go through the rubber tube.
She made it through the night, so I tubed her again and gave her warm fluids. I made a mash with her food and put little balls in her mouth. She eats them, but she won’t eat anything on her own
Thanks, I gave her some warm fluids but I think it might be too late. I should’ve been more proactive and done things differently. You know that feeling in the pit of your stomach when somethings not going to make it? that’s what I’m feeling with Opal. She fought me with the tubing but now she’s...
No, she’s in the house. There’s chicks in the same room, she can hear but not see them. She’s not even wanting to stand up anymore or eat and drink.I don’t know, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s dead by morning.
I didn’t know if I should give her scrambled eggs as a boost since I can’t give her the vitamins & electrolytes due to the CORID. She’s eating 20% chick starter right now.
I didn’t know if duck eggs had more nutritional value than chickens eggs, vice versa or if they were about the same. I gave...
Yeah, she’s skinnier than my other salmon faverolles that are the same age. And, yeah, I felt around her keel bone/chest/breast/whatever.
Okay, thank you. It seems like it’s a waiting game, I’m just worried I’ll wake up or get back from work and find her dead. She’s still eating, drinking &...
Oh, okay, I didn’t know if you were meaning to look for egg binding or laying internally. I’ll check her when I got off of work later tonight, but I don’t recall feeling anything out of the ordinary other than her being skinny when I picked her up and did the initial look over.
This is not for...
Ah, guess I made a bad decision on that front, I was just worried coccidiosis might have been the reason for her skinniness and part of the reason she couldn’t get back up to avoid being trampled even though the twine did make it hard. Today is the 3rd day for it, so I have two more days.
I...
Okay, that makes sense. How long to you think it’ll take for her to bounce back ( if she does )? After I finish treating her with corid, do you think I should give her anything else like vitamins & electrolytes before letting her back out with everyone?
Also, I’m curious: why did you ask if she...
Yeah, she can see just fine. Flies sometimes get in the house as soon as a door opens and when they get into her brooder, she’ll watch them, so I know she can see.
She seems to be better than yesterday, but I think she’s still stoved up. Do you think I should try giving her baby aspirin or is...
Hi, I found one of my salmon faverolle pullets ( 21 weeks old ) with twine off of one of the hanging feeders around her feet and sprawled on her side yesterday morning. Where she was at one the floor had to be where everyone was at the door waiting to be let out, so I have no doubt she was...
