Yes, it does seem to be that easy! I just pulled mine out after storing it all Fall and winter, and it is working great. Day 9 and 39/42 eggs progressing normally! :D
That's a good spreadsheet for basic tracking. I like to number each egg, so can tract fertility in different pens/breeds, so like to use a spreadsheet in which I have the egg number, the breed, any notes on fertility for each egg. I see that I might also want to note position in "bator'--does...
Yes, this Genesis has forced air. I set the Marans eggs at 4pm, and will set the CCL and Spitzhauben eggs at 10pm. I always give the Marans a head start (even under a broody) as they seem to take a tad bit longer!
Well, my house is heated by wood here in NorCal, so there is no stable temp anywhere. This room is the best I can do, so I'll fiddle with it a bit to see.
I have mine in my office, which runs 64*-68* this time of year. After almost 20 hours, the one incorporated into the lid says 100*and 40% and the inner, lower one says 97.5* with 44%. I guess I won't stress too much? OK to set eggs?
Okay, so after running it for 3 hours, the "ready" light is blinking, the top thermostat says 100* and 51% humidity, and the hygrometer I bought, which is next to the egg turner mechanism, so above water channel 1, says 97.9*F and 55% humidity. Seems like that would be normal for the 4"...
How may days in advance of setting do you all get the incubator running? Two days? Three? this will be my first time using it, so I am trying to think ahead!
Now... the next question..
what is a good temperature humidity gauge that is trustworthy and accurate that wont cost a ton of money?
I am not impressed with the accurite ones that cost around $9
Ditto that question...
I just ordered this incubator and am pretty excited about it. The reviews have said that the new edition (2012) was re-tooled and doesn't need the "extra" hygrometer. Would it still be wise to stick one in there?
My Marans mentor says she hatches at 50% day 1-18 and then 70% at lock down...
