Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Fat cheeks with no extra toes or feathers on their feet will most likely be EEs. That will give you a few to easily identify.

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Very pretty! Mine are growing like weeds. We moved them out to the new chicken coop this week. They are happy with their 5' x 6' run in the house. All 40 are alive and well. Today, one of the Polish was hanging upside down on the chicken wire above them when I was giving them their water...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

They will simplify your comments, btw. I explained no geese due to a very large neighboring free range flock, and no bantams due to hawk problems with smaller birds. I mentioned that we would for sure like turkeys, as I have kids that are allergic to many things put in commercial birds. All...

For those who got red broilers, do you have pics? I know I have one broiler for sure, but I have one buffish/reddish mystery to figure out yet.

Chicken Farmer, do they even hatch them out then? I was under the impression that they hatch through September. Yep, checked their website, they hatch through September. February through September per their website. Btw, all 40 are thriving.2 Lakenvelders,2 Spitzhaubens, 2 Cochins, 2...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

I am otty sure your 5 and 6 are Lakenvelders. That is the only ones I could find in their catalog with the potential for crazy spotting on the heads. As far as the feather footed ones, what about Brahmas?

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

It was left empty by Cackle. The problem is, if that damage had been to any other compartment, chicks could have, and probably would have, gotten out of the package. So far, pretty pleased with this mix. Now that I have replaced my keyboard (dratted cat or kid for ruining my iMac's...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Well, when I am on my husband's computer, I am going to contact the USPS claims dept about the damage. Someone, either one of the kids or my cat, tipped water on my desktop's keyboard in the last two days, and the keyboard is not working. USPS website is not iPad-friendly, which is what I am...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Babies are doing fine now. Six total died, the rest look healthy. My poults are doing well, so I am really happy about that (all three are blue slates, I think). I think I have some German Spitzhaubens in the bunch. Not 100% sure, but they have cavernous nostrils and a slightly larger dome...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

I think we a done with the stress-related deaths. Everyone is running around and acting healthy. Six total died. Not particularly happy with the postal system right now. I realize some deaths are likely to happen, but really, the rough ride they got was not good for them.

Five dead so far, and number six is sitting in my hand. Everyone else appears fine.

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

I have lost a total of four, with two others not looking so hot. I am really not happy about the condition that box arrived in, as I am sure that has stressed some of them big time. The golden laced polish, two small yellow chicks, and a black and white chick died. On the upside, the chicks...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Here are my baby chicks. I think it is number 2 that I lost earlier, and number 28 is not going to make it through the night.

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

I'll post pics later. I emailed Cackle about the damaged box, and told them I had one DOA and two that are not looking so hot (I'd be shocked if the golden laced Polish and one of my little yellow chicks pulls through tonight). There were spots chicks could have gotten out, and one section had...

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Go to Cackle's site. There are baby pics of each bird they have. Guineas are very, stripey, on their heads as babies. They are also so dang tiny (I have half-grown guineas right now). I did a recount, and there are 45 chicks (including turkeys). I will post pics soon of mine - I got...

Turkeys have nubs on their heads. Easy to spot them.

Cackle hatchery's Hatchery Surprise- Anybody got this before?

Serenity, we got ours today too, and no ducks in it. Three turkeys as well (I am thinking blue slates, btw). Did anyone get this and NOT have all four compartments containing chicks? Our box was damaged when it arrived, and one compartment had no chicks. Only one chick DOA. Really was hoping...
