Well, no false alarm this time. I have a broody hen sitting on 5 Nankin eggs. The should hatch just in time to maybe have some real feathers before the cold weather sets in. I don't mind her sitting, but if she'd asked for my advice I'd have told her to wait till the first of February.... lol.
That is awesome! Glad to hear it. I contacted both the local FFA and 4H chapters and was told, with a sneer no less, that neither had EVER heard of showing CHICKENS. So I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with my army of roos...
Who's the Breeder? I would love a few more single comb hens. In an unrelated matter, anybody need 6 R/C roos? I just don't like the way they look that much, and I don't think any of my pullets ended up being R/C anyhow/
Now they are IN the coop and have even MORE room and food. They just *DON'T* like tail feathers.....
I love how they they can wield that look of righteous indignation at will
The children:
Out in the growing pen I used while I finished up getting the coop ready. When they sya these birds fly well they aren't kidding, those fences were more of a "suggested" territorial boundary after 4 days.
They aren't much fans of cameras.
Yes, I have an epidemic of...
Alas. I have discoveted one of my roos that will probably be a definate cull. He has several feathets around the back of his neck with dark patches, almost a lacing pattern. It's only about 3 feathers but it is PROMINANT, ah well, thete's at least 4 more confirmed roos to pick from :P lol
Hey guys, I have a question. Does anyone use numbered legbands, and where do you order them? I really like the ABA bands except the part where they have the year stamped on them. I'm still not positive of everyone's gender and I don't want a bunch of xtra bands of the wrong size that I can't use...
And while the eggs are sitting under the hens I will be playing music with subliminal messages, training the chicks to one day respond to electromagnetic signals broadcast via the cell phone networ to rise UP! And THEN... oh, wait. I mean um. LOOK! OVER THERE!
*runs away*
Well Thanks to Mary Ann, I have enough chicks to starve myself keeping them fed ;) lol. I just know that with my luck of the 32 I ended up with (paid for 25, don't know why she threw in the spares, I appreciate it though ) I'm assuming at least 20 are roos I'm already plying the feild of the...
Micki, Mine did indeed come from Mary Ann, once I have these grown out and picked my breeders, I plan to look for another bloodline, but for now I have all the chicken I keep fed, lol.
Oh, about what age should I start being able to tell my RC from my SC? I'm starting to seem slight differences in combs NOW, but at this point that all it is: is differences. I can't tell yet which lumps and bumps are going to become what, lol.
