I bought a hybrid honeysuckle last year, chickens left it alone for the longest time and then ond day it was bare. It never grew again, somehow they killed it!
We have regular honeysuckle though and they never touch the stuff.
If you keep them pruned up at the bottom you shouldn't have a problem with snakes. They just like the shade and the cover. And get thornless varieties, much less painful to pick them when they ripen! Ouachita is a good one.
