Extra toes, dark skin, feathered legs, small crest, beard. About the only thing he got from the BO was the single comb and regular feathers. I had others that were missing toes, didn't have a crest, had really weird combs.

He looked a lot like a BO chick with feathered legs, as he started getting older he got a little bit of a crest on his head. He was a really sweet little rooster.

This little guy had a buff Silkie dad and a buff Orpington mom. He and the goat were best buddies.

Sizzles are a work in progress. Theyre a frizzled (or smooth), normal feathered bird with all the characteristics of a Silkie. So, theyre really not just a cross between a Silkie and a frizzled bird. But, if you start from scratch, then you've gotta start somewhere. I started with a Silkie...

They'll probably end up with some leakage. How does their leg feathering look? That's where I'd expect them to be lacking a little.

I would suspect he's a little cockerel as well. When we butcher, I let them rest in the fridge in a salt brine for 24 hours, then we cook 'em up. Yours should be good to go by now :)

You'd be quite surprised at what those boys can accomplish if they set their minds to it. My Silkie rooster loved the buff Orp and LF Cochin hens, and their chicks were adorable :)

    Silkie Cross Thread!! PICS!!

The hookless gene is responsible for Silkied feathers. So, for example, if two normal feathered birds each carry a copy of the hookless gene (even if they don't show it), a percentage of their offspring will be Silkied. The hookless gene is recessive. If you breed a Silkie feathered bird to a...
