Despite this ones colours when it was a chick, it's now a fully grown laying hen that looks an awful lot like an rir to me. Maybe there is some cross in there for the colour variation as a chick but it doesn't show now. Just thought I'd let you all know how it turned out.
I only paid for rir eggs. I will wait to see what the adult bird looks like. If it looks close enough to a Rhode Island Red then I will be happy, but if it turns out to clearly be a cross that looks very little like a rir then I will contact them. If its a roo then I will be even more likely to.
That's a shame. The seller had a very good rating so I must have been unlucky, still hoping its a pullet though. I will post a picture of it when it's older so you can see how it turned out.
Thank you Tom, that was worrying me, but the main thing that makes me think its a boy is how slow it is feathering out. Does this breed carry the slow feather gene in males?
I am not sure. It was not labelled as anything special but the pictures of the parent birds looked very dark. Much darker than most of the rir that I see on here.
This chick is just over 5 weeks old. It has really had me confused as to whether its a boy or a girl. It has a small comb that doesn't look too bright to me so that suggests girl, but the fact that it is taking so long to feather out makes me think its a boy. If any one could tell me their...
