Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

From this picture I'd agree it looks like a Golden 300. Looks to be a fenale too based on the color.

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

Very good advice from @windyridgefarm . If you do decide to start hatching your own eggs make sure you have a plan for extra drakes. Plan for at least half the eggs you hatch to be males. It probably wouldn't be hard to sell extra hens but it will be harder with drakes. Unless you don't have a...

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

If you don't need to breed I'd say get just hens. You won't have to deal with any drake drama. You won't get ducklings unless you let them brood. All 3 of mine tried to go broody this year on unfertilized eggs.

Do you have a picture? What is the age? Cute ducks @proteinjunkie . Does your drake have runner in him or is he just stretching in both of those pictures?

This is what I learned too so I am very curious as well to know why the drake is considered gold phase. I wonder if the difference is because of different standards.I looked up the British poultry standards but it didn't mention gold vs. silver. It said the wing spectrum should be bronze with...

I don't know anything about showing but I do know that it is much harder to get good markings on Magpies. So that's something to keep in mind. You can definitely have a mixed flock but any drake will breed with any duck. If you want purebred offspring you would have to separate them. Would...

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

Are you planning on breeding? Do you have a specific purpose for them? If not, I would say just get both. I have only WH now but I really want to add some different breeds later. Magpies are on my list.

No it's not duckweed. The nursery didn't have any so the worker recommended faerie moss. They loved it.

Duck Breed Focus - Welsh Harlequin

I am new to ducks and picked the WH for my first breed because they are supposed to be calm. I also think they are beautiful. I have them mostly for pets but the eggs will be a bonus. I adore my girls.
