Ok, we've made our decision. We are going to wait until Max is fully grown and then we will re-think this major decision. We just want to say 'thanks' to everyone who commented. We know you are doing your best to advise us well, and you did! Max says, "whew."

I have to admit, that was the most heartbreaking thing I've done in a long time. One kennel had 3 of the most beautiful lab-looking siblings that were 5 or 6 months old. The pound keeper said they were going to be euthanized the following week if nobody took them. I wanted to bring them ALL home.

p.s. we think Max is about 6 months old at the end of January. We have been told he was Anatolian/Pyr/SB - all I can say is, whatever he is, it's a great mix!

Great article - lots to think about there. Our property is fenced, but like most farm fences, they're no match for a clever dog.

Thanks for the opinion. We actually got Max from a pound. I can't imagine him being put to sleep because there wasn't anybody to adopt him and I don't want to contribute to that situation for another animal either.

Well, folks... it was inevitable. We want our Max to stay around home and not go wandering off in search of romance, sooooo.... this week is Max's last week as a boy. If anyone, including the spurts have any reason they think we should not do this... speak now or forever hold your peace.

Another vet appointment yesterday, 12/30 - exactly 3 weeks from the last one. Max weighs 57 lbs. now - a gain of 10 lbs in 3 weeks. I think he's starting to slow down a little now. We believe he is about 5 months old.

Here's our Max at 4 months and 1 week old. I don't think he qualifies as a teen-ager yet, but his hair sure is doing it's own "thang." He is getting to be a very big boy for his age. He is now over 40 lbs but don't know exactly how much he weighs. We'll find out at the vets on Friday...
