I will try to get some better photos of him today and post them. Javas are interesting, and when birds like this guy come out of no where, well it makes it fun to have them.
JWEBB, nope is his just right at 26/27 weeks old. So far I have had little comment on him. I did notice he is getting some copper (straw, red whatever you call it at this point) on the saddle and wings now too. So, it is interesting for sure. The hens from that same group are black and look...
ok Java nuts do I have a Auburn Java roo?
Background - I ordered 30 chicks from Garfield last fall. There was a single white chick in the batch and there did not appear to be any auburn in the group; however, now @ 26 weeks this week one of the roos is showing copper.
Any thoughts...
Thanks... that is good advice. It is sad to me that the genetics of this historic breed are in such disarray at this point that people are struggling to find a bird with the one identification mark of yellow soles that says I am Java. How did it come to this?
Hi, please don't take my posts as a neg on Mr. Urch's birds. I did not get my birds from him directly, so I really cannot speak to the quality of his birds. It sounds like from your post you were very happy with the production and look of the birds you got from him. Maybe that is where I...

Thanks for the info bnjrob... I will drop you a PM on maybe getting some pullets from you in the near future. I am about the same distance from both of you here in Angelo, so very doable.
You know, I have mixed feelings about it really. I really enjoy Java, but you are right there seems to...
Only thing I have ever read is that the mottled java was a cross between a Black Java Roo and a White Hen. I don't know if that white hen was a white java or some other breed.
thanks for the info bnjrob!
my understanding is the my foundation black java flock (Urch and Garfield) do/did produce auburn birds from time to time. I personally have not had a "auburn" bird show up to date in the true sense, but I do have some variability in eye color as well as shanks...
No one get out the pitchforks and whips, but I have a question that I cannot seem to find answer too. Is there any problem or down side to having a mixed flock of Mottled and Black Java?
Background mottled - I have several very nice mottled cockerels but no pullets from a black male x...
