Hello everyone. This is Todd C (Allegany, NY). I am sorry to say that I am no longer breeding Barred Hollands. A neighborhood black bear put me out of business last summer and I do not have the motivation to start over again. I wish all of you the best of luck with your Barred Holland flocks.
I have 4 Barred Holland chicks (Gracie Mae Line) that were hatched this past weekend. They need a new home asap. I would like to be able to ship them by the end of the day on Wednesday 8/19 by the end of the day. PM me if interested.
I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but here goes with my two cents. In my mind, there are two issues at play here. First, producing the best barred hollands you can. By that I mean working toward the APA standard for Barred Hollands. If you don't have a copy of the standard...
If you are looking to raise Barred Hollands as a breed improvement project with the goal of getting them as close as possible to the APA standard then my advise would be to seek out private breeders. If your goal is to raise them for the purpose of getting eggs and or meat then either private...
It has been a while since I last posted. Here is an update on what I've been doing. I have hatched about 45 BH chicks so far this spring and have another batch of 20+ eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch next weekend. I've experimented with my hatching procedures/incubator settings and...
It's nice to see activity on this thread once again. Welcome back everyone. I just finished hatching a whole batch of BH chicks. 16 new chicks in the brooder and a whole new batch of eggs into the incubator for round two. I hope to hatch 2 additional batches for myself this spring and maybe...
Maybe spring is right around the corner after all! I placed 3 barred Holland eggs in the incubator for a fertility check. 3 out of 3 were fertile. Good luck to all you BH breeders out there as you get ready to start hatching. Don't forget August 16/17 in Slippery Rock, PA. Thanks Cheralee.
Welcome to the BH thread jmcdan. It is always a pleasure to be able to welcome new folks to the BH world. The BH breed needs as many advocates as possible. If you are looking for chicks/eggs, you have good timing. I would expect that you will begin to see offers of eggs for sale as the...
Hi everyone. How are your flocks making out this winter. Here in western New York it is extremely cold and snowy. We have well over a foot on the ground and temperatures rarely make it above the teens. Last week it was -23 degrees at 7am. My flock is struggling with the temps in their...
Cheralee and Cross Creek, the birds in your photos look great. Thanks to both of you for sharing. It's been a snowy and cold winter here and I can't wait for some nice weather. My BH flock is in pretty rough shape right now. Hopefully spring is right around the corner.
The Sandhills chicks seem to have cleaner barring. The males are always lighter because of the barring gene. I believe the males get 2 and the girls get 1. Besides that those Sandhills birds appear to have cleaner bars. They sure seem worth working with.
Cheralee,
Thanks for contacting me. It is always nice to chat with fellow BH breeders. As we dicussed last evening, it would be nice to get a group together for a face to face sometime in the not so distant future. I'll definitely keep in touch.

I placed a few BH eggs in the incubator about 3 weeks ago. My intent was to check for fertility and then dispose of the eggs as I did not want to raise chicks through the cold and snow that we get here in western New York. Well my wife had other ideas. She discouraged me from disposing of...
