    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Aussies range from 45 to 85 pounds. So not all are smaller. Breeding is all over the place as far as coats and sizes. There is no standard weight for Australian shepherds. My one is 50 pounds and my other is around 80 pounds, my last show bred Aussie also was around 80 pounds. Most are smart...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

I'm so jealous. I would love going to something like that. My biggest pet peeve is people at the vets petting and saying you're a good dog to dogs barking and pulling and generally acting like animals. I sit quietly and mostly ignore my dogs at the vet. They sit quietly too. The vet loves my...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Definitely not arguing, I enjoy a good discussion. For certain breeds a certain owner is needed for those breeds to be good dogs. Many herding breeds are bred to have that extra forward behaviors in order to herd animals. They also can be more prone to nip and have dominance issues because of...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

I only owned one German shepherd, she was a nice dog but too protective. German shepherds are up there on the list of dogs that bite. Australian shepherds are on it too. They are a higher risk breed. They need a assertive confident owner. They have become less popular lately.

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

A few breeds in you list are known to be aggressive and reactive. Don't get a German shepherd for sure. Many terriers are terrors, dogs like frenchies can't go on long walks, especially if it's cold or hot. Huskies can be destructive and shed a lot, so do any of the shepherds or Belgium...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

If you aren't normally active you may regret being forced to be active. I always pair my active dogs with other active breed. I just take my pack for a walk and they run and wrestle. I have 40 acres which helps. I find a boxer is a good fit for an Aussie, but any other active breed would work...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Definitely don't mean to talk you out of an Aussie, just want you to know what issues you may run into. I'm not familiar with English shepherds. I have not had a golden, but they seem to have the same issues as Aussies in that their type and temperament can vary widely. Seek out decent parent...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Aussies aren't as pushy as cattle dogs, but they are persistent, and can become dominant to their owners if you don't understand what they are up to. Aussies have a sense of humor, and are sensitive to corrections, but they still will try to get away with stuff. An Aussie also believes...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Both my show bred Aussie females are/were around 70-80 pounds. Generally Australian shepherds don't have a required weight according to the standard, though 45-70 is the recommended range. My show bred is way different than my working bred dog.

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

You are correct they can be registered with the AKC. They aren't necessarily just a small Australian shepherd though, they are a separate breed. Of course this particular debate has been going on since these other sizes were created. I'm an Australian shepherd purist and think the name...

    Australian Shepherds (Aussies)

Aussies are bred to move cattle without too much direction from a human. So it makes them assertive, active pushy dogs that often don't follow commands well. On the other hand they are wicked smart, active and love to talk. They aren't as active generally as some other breeds like border...
