    I generally keep picking away at the shell a bit throughout the day. A little at a time. Since it's pipped itself you can do much damage as long as there's no blood and you don't remove it too quickly. Some eventually come out on their own and some require a bit of help.

    I always pick a hole in the membrane if a chick is pipped but not zipped yet and it's been a while. If you see blood than stop. Otherwise pick a small hole and keep an eye on it. That's what I do. I have helped a few hatch out by going slow. Some need more time to absorb the yolk but apparently...
