Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

I have Silkies and I'm a newbie, haven't had chicks since I was a kid on Grandma 's farm but the older two chicks I have one has this posture and we're leaning to rooster from his behavior, posture and crow. I think there's a way to sex your birds at a young age by the wing feathers. It will...

Sheds a new light on the old saying pecking order, they definitely establish one at a young age!

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

They're so cute! Happy to see sticky pulling through and looking good! They have such different personalities, it's good you're putting them together now, it seems tougher the older they are. Noticed on my last hatch that was over two days that the first two hatched together seemed to be...

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

The pipped egg hatched? This is good! They all hatch so differently, I've had some pip,zip and flip out in seconds and others take their sweet time (days). Some come out noisy and stay that way others are mellow. The process is stressful to watch not knowing what to expect and when you have...

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

No I wouldn't worry about that, it's good it's getting around and being noisy maybe it will encourage the other to hatch out. Good to hear the hole is larger on the pipped egg! Here's hoping! How long has the egg been pipped and what day is it on?

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

You're right about the chick most likely being shrink wrapped. I basically worked up from the pip to get the pointy air cell end of egg off, then wet the white membrane to see if there are active blood veins still, they will be large and red. Inactive ones are about a hairs width and pinkish...

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

Oh so sorry for the loss. I would just wait out with the other, good you put the antibiotic on it. Is the one in shell still chirping? I've done four assisted hatches with two surviving chicks. Go slow as possible, start small chips at pip, if you see bleeding stop and put pressure on the...

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

I wouldn't do that yet, it needs to dry out. Don't give up on them yet, just give them some time to dry out and rest in the incubator. Please read your other thread, that chick needs attention now.

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

How long has it been pipped? If it's been less than 24 hours don't worry yet. They're not deformed that's the yolk sack its stepping on. They should calm down and go back to sleep, just let them be, moving is good hopefully their bellies will close up. A damp towel will help get the humidity...

Do both of these chicks need to be put down??

OMG,They weren't ready to hatch that's why the egg was stuck to them. Put them back in the incubator put a soft slightly damp towel down and lay them on it. Set the incubator a little lower if you're worried about it heating up while you're gone, it can be 95 degrees. They haven't absorbed...
