@PapaChaz That is usually true here too. Lately, my crew has been getting a lot of fruit. When I gave them all the scraps and some leftovers from my daughter's baby shower, they only got excited over the pineapple. They don't get that too often. They did seems to enjoy eating out of this lol

    Deep litter method

I've been adding things lately that I didn't add in the beginning. It seems to be working out very well. Even with FF the poop isn't disappearing as quickly as I would like but still no smell. The only times I have fly issues is when I put too much fruit in the run. They aren't attracted to the...

I'm trying to keep looking forward. I just started this job. Was relying on it for all the usual back to school expenses. My boy's school goes back in less than a month. I was really hoping that if a new owner opened back up asap I could hopefully get my job back. With the robbery, though I...

    Deep litter method

I closed last night. Today was supposed to be last day we would be open. My daughter worked there too and needed those last few hours today. Shop got robbed overnight. So much for that. Now I'm worried they will think we were involved. The world sucks sometimes. This too shall pass but waiting...

I was thinking the same. I wonder how long it would take to grow marigolds from seed. My mom gave me a bunch but I didn't have time to plant them yet. I get a day off mid week. I will see if I can borrow my dads truck then.

We are trying to get landlord to have some dirt brought in. He doesn't seem to want to. Boy, the imorovements he made to his own house recently look great. (No. I'm nit passive aggressive. Why do you ask?) I've been working every day. Right now, I'm just doin what I can to keep my head... Errrr...

    Deep litter method

Thanks all! Things dried up a bit today. Still a lot of water in the yard but i don't have to wade to the coop now. Its receded enough to just be a soggy and muddy nuisance. This morning I figured out the reason the girls were digging so much in the coop was to dust bathe in the bedding since...

The yard is considerably better this morning but theres more rain headed our way. I haven't seen such a rainy season here in many many years. Well before moving here and having my yard flood.

It varies. I guess 6-7 in un some places. Up to 10 in others. I've scooped some out to the run when it was really wet. Also its usually a bit deeper under the roosts

    Deep litter method

I've been trying to avoid turning but the girls do it anyway. I go in and try to smooth it back out over the dirt. I didn't realize they could or would dig so deep. Right now all i have avail. Is pine shavings but im alternating layers of med. And fine. I'll try to pick up lime before work...

The coop is enclosed but has several open windows with chicken wire and the door is screened with wire too. Our shed shields it so it doesn't rain in. The run is partially covered by a tarp and enclosed with chicken wire.

    Deep litter method

Our yard is the lowest level in the neighborhood. Both yards on either side drain onto ours because they are a bit higher. If we owned it we would be bringing in dirt. Anyway, our coop and run are dirt floor. Its slightly higher than the rest of the yard but still lower than the neighbors. Our...

    Deep litter method

We are still getting rain on our already saturated yard. Until now the coop was staying dry. Now, its staying wet no matter how much bedding i add or how much I turn it over. I'm starting to worry it will mold. Would lime help with the moisture? I'm thinking mix it in the damp bedding and toss...
