On a Youtube video the user says she thinks the Victorio would be fine, even though she bought a more expensive model. Point yours is fine and being as it's cheaper I may get one too.
Dang I forgot to add the lemon juice this time round. I have not used it in the past but started to the last few times. I wonder if adding the fresh basil helps.
Does anyone have this type of canner? They use less water and since I don't do large amounts at a time it seems like it might make sense for me. If so what style do you have?
Now for why I dropped in. I've been busy with work and DW and homestead stuff.
SO, I've been busy and tired. However I dropped in to offer information about tomatoes. Since winter is fast approaching and there have been frosts, what to do with those green tomatoes. DON'T waste them. You can...
Grape jelly turned out good. Now doing Pomegranate Grape.
I had a bottle of Lakewood organic pomegranate juice ( 4 cups in the bottle) and one cup of the grape juice. So I'm doing it up just like I did with the grape jelly. Thankfully I noticed sediment in the bottom of the Pomegranate juice...
So what I learned from this batch. I used eight sheets of cheese cloth to pour the grape juice through after letting it sit for 24 hrs and avoiding the crystals and sediment. I let it sit a couple of days since I was busy, but today on measuring out the five cups I found no crystals or...
I forgot to let my first batch sit for 24 hrs and was told it was crunchy. Not that I recall what I kept for myself but the recipe does say to let it sit. I have been just tossing my cheesecloth into the washer and running it on a rinse cycle.
I did let it sit overnight as I said. Still I think it should look clearer. How many layers of cheese cloth do you use?
Do you know if it would be different if it were left overnight in a GLASS container or PLASTIC? I'm only talking about Concord Grape juice not other kinds. Grapes leave...
I'm making grape jelly and wondered "How many time do you run it through cheese cloth and how many layers ?" My last run before letting it sit was four layers, but I don't like the look of it for clarity. Is running it through more layers helpful or a waste of time? I've let it sit for a...
I volunteer at a school and the head lady gave me a box of over ripe pears for my chickens but before they got theirs I gleaned what I could and made some Rhubarb, strawberry, pear conserve. Though it's more like jam. I had just enough Rhubarb in the garden for the recipe.
Generally if I get...
Well I did have enough for the recipe, so I'm good.
A friend gave me some tomatoes and I had some from my own garden.
I grew "Mountain Fresh" this year even though I had to buy plants. They turned out better than I expected and are a good size. There are other Hybrids with the "Mountain"...
Don't have time to read all the posts I've missed but,
I'm making Tomato Basil sauce. It calls for 1/3 Basil. Can I use the stems? Chopped up of course but I'm not sure I'll have enough with out the stems.
I think we've gotten away from what it means to "put on a spread". I told DW this the other day.
Breakfast today consists of a bowl of cereal, or toast, eggs and bacon or hash browns or just eggs and toast. Heck breakfast cereal might even be a sugar cereal with milk and nothing else.
So...
I have a recipe for "Lemon Curd". The final paragraph says. "Process in a boiling water bath, then seal, label, and freeze for up to 4 months. Refrigerate once opened. Alternately, this recipe can be canned using a pressure canner."
I have "Honey Lemon Marmalade" "Lemon Ginger Marmalade"...
You might try some Lemon Curd. These may not be "lemons" but Meyers lemons which are a cross and not as acidic as regular lemon.
the Meyer lemon, is a citrus fruit native to China thought to be a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange.
They have a slightly...
I don't have nearly that much. I do use the "spider" for straining berries when cleaning them . The small holes are even small enough to catch currants. I did switch my bamboo handled one for a stainless steel. My bamboo spider rusted. While it may be safe I'm opting for dishwasher safe stuff...
It's always nice to try new recipes. If things don't work out at least we've learned what we like and don't like. I won't make goose berry jam again. It's to tart even for DW. Did you know we don't all have the same tastes in foods, due to difference in taste buds.
Thanks, I'll give that a...
I am jealous.
We were given a jar of grape jelly by a friend but DW doesn't like and won't eat it. It's not that bad. I know it sounds vain but mine with the four cups of wild grapes is better. More grape flavor.
My grape vines are doing well and there will be a few clusters of grapes if...
