    Thanks SWchickfan. They defnitely have plenty of room. I was wondering about them needing something to do. The branch idea is a great one. I'll also check the temperature. They don't seem to be crowding or trying to get away from the lamp. I moved it up about 8".

    I've been reading that it's best to get a red heat lamp, but it's such a high heat at 250w compared to 90. My chicks peck with the 90w white... and pant with the 250w red. How high up does it (the red one) generally need to be? My white 90w is at about 18" above their floor... I'm going to...

    Thanks for all the replies! We jumped in. My daughter and I picked out 4 americaunas, 6 hamburgs and 2 light sussex. I'm sure this will be a very exciting journey! I love just watching them and listening to them peep.

    I'm so new at this, that I don't even have chickens, yet! My daughter is in our local high school FFA, and one thing led to another, and I'm finding myself in love (or obsessed as my daughter would say) with chickens. I want eggs out of this.. I think Soooo.... how loud are those roosters...
