How to RAISE a good rooster.

I know what the OP asked. If a rooster is only touched with a net and moved from pen to pen how can you call it a “good rooster”? You could keep the meanest roosters alive in a pen 24/7 and still consider it non aggressive because you’re never giving them an opportunity to show whether or not...

How to RAISE a good rooster.

In a nutshell if you get very few easy going, easy to handle roosters and find yourself culling many human aggressive roosters you’re doing something wrong.

How to RAISE a good rooster.

If they’re totally free ranging hens 24/7 with chicks they need to be able to protect them. I’m glad you don’t raise them too.

That behavior is exactly what you would want from a game hen that’s raising chicks.

Gamefowl are absolutely not more flighty than other breeds. I couldn’t disagree with you more.

I suppose you will have to reread what I posted as well. I said how aggressive. Gamefowl are capable of being far more aggressive than any layer rooster. I also said any individual is capable of being aggressive.

How to RAISE a good rooster.

The breed absolutely makes a difference with how aggressive they can be. Individuals of all breeds can be aggressive though.

How to RAISE a good rooster.

There’s a lot of advice given out here that doesn’t work. Not in this thread but many others and articles. I have over 50 roosters right now and handle at least 5-6 usually every day. So I’m not talking about raising a few a year for the last 20 yrs.

How to RAISE a good rooster.

I’ve seen a lot of people handle roosters and this is almost always the problem imo. They are totally unsure of themselves. I get it though they’re fast and some of them hurt.

How to RAISE a good rooster.

I don’t need any advice on handling roosters. I have a bunch and I’m taking about their mindset. They are protecting hens and territory.

I use a net sometimes too. The net isn’t completely my point. It’s lack of handling period. If you only handle them a tiny bit you have no idea whether they are “friendly” or not. Sure if he doesn’t run you down and kick the snot out of you then he isn’t “bad” but that doesn’t prove you can...
