I have yet another question haha! So, we've been keeping the bully easter egger hen that is the lowest on the pecking order out of the part of the coop that they roost in (it has a tiny door that shuts them in so that they don't wake everyone up at 5am). So we've been keeping the main bully out...
So I can't believe it actually happened but they are all in the run together hanging out. My easter egger definitely is going after her but i'm hoping there will be no pinning down. If they are doing okay in the run can I open the coop door and let them in and out or is that too risky with the...
so my new gamefowl is not leaving a very high up perch all day. so how is she supposed ot get integrated if she never comes down? i feel like this could take weeks and i have my easter egger locked up still. my concern with keeping her in a crate for a long time is that she's very close to...
oh I didn't see this reply! thank you Mrs. K. :) Is it okay that I'm putting the lowest, mean easter egger in the crate in the run or is it better if she's to be out of sight?
HI! So my update is that I put the lowest in the pecking order in a crate in the run- the easter egger- who pinned down the little gamefowl. Now the gamefowl is with the top bird and middle bird. but she is staying high up out of anyones way becasue anytime she comes down she gets pecked by the...
ok, so the middle one and her are in the run and are totally fine. would you let the head buff orpington hen next? or the meanest easter egger that is the current bottom of the pecking order next?
thank you!! so we have 3 existing birds plus the new one. so if take away the two mean ones it's the head honcho buff and the lowest easter egger. the cream legbar in the middle is all that's left. so do i intro just those two? the ee and the new little gamefowl?
oh and yes she's in the run all the time. i alternate them from coop to run so that they are always separate but connected to see each other and eat on each side of the fence, etc. so she knows where stuff is but i'm not sure she's using her instincts to get away
separate but visible- eating right on each side of the fence. i alternate them between coop and run that is connected- see picture above in one of my posts above. should i only let them in run together and shut coop door so they can't even go in there?
I've kept her separate for a week. we opened the run, and they still had access to the coop- so she went into the coop and jumped on a perch and when she jumped back down two of them attacked her and had her pinned. they seemed vicious. she didn't run away or just couldn't so we had to break it...
I know- she's so pretty and so sweet. I just can't even watch how mean they are and now I'm scared to put her in the run with them. If you were in California I'd def give her to you since I can't stomach this!
We just tried to integrate her and the ee and buff pinned her down and we had to break it up. Because she's lived alone her whole life I'm not sure she knows how to defend herself or swiftly run away. We separated them again. Is some pinning down normal? Shes so tiny compared to them and is...
Thank you so so much for your response! I will do that asap. I thought they wanted a lot of free space to forage and dig around but I hear you re utilizing the vertical space more!!
Thank you for your replies
thank you for your reply! So a month ago, we had two buffs- one passed away. So I got the cream legbar and easter egger. We've now had them for 4 weeks so do you think they are still establishing pecking order and adding this little gamefowl won't feel like such a...
Hi, thanks to this website I just identified a young hen that was given to us as an American Gray gamefowl. Is it a bad idea to integrate her with my buff orpington, easter egger, and cream legbar? I just read that they can be super aggressive with other birds and wondering if this was a bad...
