Is that on the top of her foot???
Ithink I would peel all that stuff off, like the black stuff, and soak her foot in Epsom salts , or like we do now, get some Epsom salt gel and leave it on over night. It looks like you have...
Animal, I would assume that the black thing was bad and needed to come out. As far as how big to cut the circle, I'm waiting for a set of those biopsy things. I got a set of different sizes on ebay for $19.
My last one was when I removed the plug, I got some pus. But 2 days later after the...
Sounds bad bad! Jeffers has pen g injectable. I use 23 g needles and thin it .2 ml of sterile saline (they must sell that too ), otherwise you need a larger gauge needle (21 or 19)
Yea, I would have him on abx. You may want to poultice to draw any infection out as well. I use the Epsom...
Epsom salts is not sodium chloride. It's good for soaking swelling, boils, wounds, etc. It even has some antibiotic properties that you can use it instead of antibiotic ointment. It may have a slight sting at first but really nothing much.
I think there's quite a few poultices that work, not...
With Pen G I draw up my .5 ml of med, then I draw up .2 of sterile saline and use a 23 gauge needle. That .2 of saline thins it out just beautifully for a higher gauge needle.
Wildsam, I've got one like yours too. Last night I spent an hour (and lots of blood) and got out a soft kernel. I worked on the foot for another 40 minutes and didn't get anything else. Today he won't even put the foot down. I wonder if I got it all but it's hard to tell with the swelling...
Yea, tea tree oil is toxic. I've heard it used on legs for mites, but that's it. Pen G injectable is best IMO for staph. Currently I'm using LS50 in the water, or Baytril oral.
Wildsam I have a problem like that too. Can't find the bumble and the roo can't walk on the foot. Isn't that...
No, I'm still here!
I don't know. I have one now that is swollen and painful and the roo is wasted away from Marek's and he just won't up and die! So he's on antibiotics and I've also dug the hole.
The string thing I just don't know. You pull them out?
I had one who was chronic, and...
JBV, sounds like you did a good job. I have gone thru the top a few times because it was a better access point at the time. Maybe that's why mine is so hard to get out, it could be in pieces.
What I do is soak the foot by 3-4 days of Epsom salt gel wrapped around the foot overnight. I feel that if I get rid of some swelling, the kernel is easier to feel. I just can't find it with this one. There may be more than one. He's wasting from Marek's and I just can't add to his stress...
Well, I've soaked for a few days now, and tried to find the bumble again. But the roo started gasping, and I cleaned him up, packed up and put him back in the coop. I guess he will have to keep it. If it gets painful, I'll see the vet. So I've failed on this one.
I know, after all that work and scaring the poor chicken , not getting a kernel is so unfair, LOL. I have one right now. I could not find a kernel anywhere.
Re Vetricyn. It's not an antibiotic. It's actually water and about 3% bleach, and looks to be a minute quantity of Oxine -less than 1%, and written out as 2 separate ingredients. So save the $30.00 and make your own. I bought it last week and when I read the label , I packed it back up and...
I use peroxide as well. I can't see peroxide affecting healthy tissue because it kills by oxygenating anaerobic bacteria. If it's a surface sore or cut, I use full strength. If deep, I'll use 1/2 or 1/4 strength as a rinse, then apply antibiotic ointment. I've learned this from being a NICU...
Those pictures are awful. But necessary. I'm glad your vet took an interest. Those bumblefoots are gross. One thing I've found helped is soaking in epsom salts, especially afterwards for a few days to help draw out the nasty stuff.
I would imagine a turkey can get it. I also have one chicken that's had it 4 times in 5 years.
No drugging, no 'CAINE!. Seems like most people just cover their head a bit. They're pretty cooperative. And a big treat after.
