Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

I have my nests are about 22" at the bottoms, for my convenience, roost board is about 36", roost is 8" above the board. I have ramps from a 16" platform going to the board and the nest perch. The ramps were necessary because my coop is only 6' wide, and I had some heavy birds....some use the...

Well, my chickens, at3 months of age have finally decided that they don't have to do the panic cram into the corner routine at dusk! I have 9 and when I checked just to see what was what tonight, I could easily see 6 on the roost over top of theoop Board. The 3 others? On another roost I'm sure...

I really like the design of your hospital etc room. Good for " time out" as I call it. Thank goodness with my first nine ( did I say that: as if there might be a second batch?!?!?) I've not needed such, but if/when I do get more having a space like this but bigger will be a good way to integrate...

Finally, finally! We have the coop ready for our 9 chicks. Hubby is more than ready! He is a lot more sensitive to smells and, at 3 weeks, once I am right up on the box I'm brooding them in in the house, they do smell and the dust ...... wow! Gonna wait til this afternoon, though. It's 35 right...

I've read, but have no experience, that you need one nesting box for every 3 hens. Does that help? I'd leave the corner space alone, esp since it looks like the little what I call landing boards that are like a sidewalk in front of the boxes still need installed. Unless you're absolutely needing...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Zen pattern is great. Been reading back through this thread - consensus seems to be to avoid kitty litter. PDZ the way to go on the poop board with or without sand mixed in from what I read. We're within a few days of moving the chicks to the coop. Our local farm supply store is dropping off 3...

Thanks, Cluckies and pfields. I think that I'll make the landing board addition and have the roof idea worked out and ready if it looks like they're gonna do better with it I like the idea of making triangular cuts into the tablecloth. Tomorrow I'm getting the vertical nipple things. Found a...

What I think I'm going to do is use short screws to attach the brackets to the 6" tall 1x6 and make sure the landing on board is about 2" from the top of the 6" high face board. Ripping that 1x6 is exactly what hubby would not do. He wanted done!! I am ok with that. He put a lot into it and I...

AhHa! Yes, now I also see that there are doors behind the boxes that can be opened/closed for ventilation. SO .... here is what I have and what I'm not too thrilled with, although if it works I'll be just fine with it. I know I'm going to put a "landing board" about 2 inches down from the front...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Hi, pfields, What I see that looks like what might have a similar effect as my boxes is that your boxes seem to be placed at a window. So, to that extext the boxes you made have the same amount or more light exposure than my boxes, also inside the coop but without roofs. I'm going to get some...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

This is off the poop board question but related to the nesting box conversation: does anyone have nesting boxes inside the coop with have partitions to keep them separate, but no roof over them? We had a "design glitch". Poop board on other side of henhouse. Chicks only 2 weeks old so some...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

This makes sense, BUT, since our nesting boxes are going to go in at about that height, even though they'll have a slanted roof ... and since the board to nail the back poop board is at 39" ... and I really don't want to make this more of a pain for the builder (not me) ... 39" it was. Good news...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

The poop board got nailed up at 39" high. Roost about 7" above that. So many recommendations about how far from the wall to set the roost. Most common seems to be 18". Aargh! We used 2 boards 10" wide for the poop board .... So, the front edge of the roost is about 3" from the lip on the front...

Poo! Haha I have Speckled Sussex, Comet and Buff Orpingtons. For these breeds (heavier) use a ramp? My hubby will love that! NOT.

Looks like nobody "married" to a certain height of the poop board. Storey's says 24". Our construction much much easier at 39". Surely chickens that have once long ago roosted in trees can get to the roost above the poop board with no trouble!(?)

Just guessing, but I'd wonder if chickens would peck at kitty litter and eat it like grit? Poopy and all? Bet PDZ is a better way to go. This from a complete novice, however!

Liking this thread a lot. Good ideas well reinforced by pics. I am a show not tell gal. Our coop coming along well. Untreated lumber cut on portable sawmill making for ventilation. Still yet wanting windows that'll open. But this thread about poop boards .. And so many tips and pitfalls...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

I can't tell from the pics of the poop board with PDZ in it, how deep/wide the board is front to back. In one pic it looks really deep, but then I see the kitty litter scoop and am certain it's narrow. Also is the poop board directly under the roosts? I'm guessing so. But I want to get our first...
