Grrr, Wanting Something for Nothing & No Appreciation for Fine Hand Quilting....A Rare Speckledhen

My son is in dire need of that surgery, too. Mine doesn't seem to be that bad yet. You have one up on me! I don't do applique, didn't care for it when I tried it. I have changed to machine quilting, though I did one hand quilted piece recently to be sure I still had the gift (thankfully, I do)...

First, that quilt is stunning! How pretty! I love the colors she used, some of my favorites. Thank you for the compliments! You know, Walmart is now getting some decent fabrics, though you have to check who the manufacturer is on the end of the bolt to be sure what you're buying. I've used...

Back to hand-quilting! Trying it after a long hiatus to see if I still have the knack. I don't want to lose my skill, but it's rather like riding a bike, though my callouses are gone from my fingertips, ouchie!

Thank you. If I did the quilting by machine as I do now, I'd charge what I charged her for the hand quilted piece. If I did another hand quilted one of similar type, I'd be charging $125-150. But, it's all water under the bridge. She is represents a common type of attitude, I'd say.

Since I'm not currently hand quilting, I started this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1154317/ongoing-quilt-projects-continued-from-no-appreciation-for-fine-hand-quilting-thread

I appreciate that. I guess since the incident that precipitated this thread was years ago now, I ought to start a new one, but my neighbor's attitude is really just indicative of an attitude as a whole. I rarely hand quilt anymore, though I guess I ought to do it occasionally, just to keep the...

You made me chuckle. Thanks for the compliments. The nutty neighbor didn't gripe until after she had paid me for it. And she got a $150-175 bed runner for less than $100, but eh, it's over and done with. I never see that neighbor anymore. She is a complete flake in more ways than one! To me, it...

I bought a wedding ring quilt that was slightly smaller than twin size at a yard sale years ago for just $5. It had hanging tabs on it and for a time, it hung behind my headboard in the master bedroom. I've had it for years now. love those kind of finds. I will see if I can get it to an extra...

Does this almost look like Attic Windows to you guys? It does to me. I didn't expect the almost 3D look to it, even with just the floral fabrics. Not sure how big I'm going with it yet. Going to see if they know yet if I am getting a grand niece or nephew. The baby is due in May and they found...

I guess I could. The mother, Maying, is from China, beautiful young lady. Their first daughter is stunningly gorgeous. I'll have to find out if the new baby is a boy or a girl, though. No one has mentioned that yet. If they decide not to find out, I'll have to do a unisex color quilt, I guess.

Big project down and on to the next. I'll use some leftovers from the big quilt, but add lighter pinks, aquas and maybe some grays as well to the chevron log cabin blocks with the starting square in one corner. I see I started two of them on the wrong color, good grief, LOL. But this is the...

Thank you, Robin. I did push it, aided by my awesome husband, who took care of things outside when I needed to concentrate on this project. He gets a lot of credit for what I'm able to get done. I even surprised myself by getting all the binding complete in one day!

There was some shrinkage, but I believe it was due to the batting, not the fabrics. I never pre-wash the battings and it has been awhile since I used a batting with cotton. I'm not sure I've ever used this [articular brand (Pellon). The one I used to buy from Walmart was never had in stock at...

I hate when they slow down. Xander was 4 years old, so I didn't think we'd lose him this soon, but roosters have a stressful existence, which probably weighs on their heart health. Thank you. Mug cakes are good, have made those a few times.

There are numerous charts and quite a few variables aside from just the numbers. There will never be a "standard" as such within the handmade quilting community because, well, it's not the industry, too many variables. The industry, as I mentioned once, is Walmart, Target, Macy's, etc. If you...

Quilt sizes will never be standardized, not when it's a handmade, custom thing. You saw my own chart I posted. You can find fifty charts and they'll say quite different things. That standard you posted is a commercial standard and more for bedspreads and tuck-in blankets, not quilts, I might...

I don't know what you mean, not understanding you. Where there is pink thread, it's pink front and back. Where there is gray thread, it's gray front and back, however, when washed and "crinkly-quilty" and the batting fluffs a bit, ALL the threads will be pushed to the background and the design...
