I weighed my 5 week old quail from bj's birds last night. Out of 24 a&m and 24 jumbo brown eggs, 11 a&m and 12 browns made it to 5 weeks. I had 3 break their little necks. And one just died. The browns weighed from 7.1 oz up to 9.5. A&ms weighed from 8.9 to 9.6 oz. The same weight range as my...
Here I was happy with a 10 oz roo. That was short lived. Now I need a 12 oz roo to keep up with Saddina. Hopefully my roo still has some growing to do at 7 weeks of age
Sounds good to me rarebreed. Where did your birds come from. The earliest I've weighed mine is 6 weeks so I don't have a comparison for you. But I'd be happy with those weights too
I weighed my 40 7 week old quail this weekend. I've got my 10 oz rooster now. Had a couple 12+ oz hens in there too. I segregated all the keepers from the smaller birds. In a few weeks I'll be setting eggs from a half dozen 12+ oz hens and the ten ounce roo.
Anyone else want to report on the...
Question still to be answered...what would be considered a good weight for a roo? My heavyweights are hens. The roos are under 10 ounces. I know the roos will be smaller, but 2 to 3 ounces smaller? My thoughts are that a 10 ounce roo would be good. Any other thoughts?
Mine are way to spastic to nicely stand on the scale. My first attempt at weighing them involved cutting the toe end out of a tube sock.
Have you ever tried to stuff a quail in a sock. Not fun for me or the quail.
I don't know. I would think that anyone with decent sized birds would like to brag on them. I will give credit to ugly ducky on this forum. I ordered my first eggs from her. She says she has 12 to 14 oz browns, goldens and A&m. From her stock I have some goldens and browns that go 12.5 oz at 9...
I use little, like 5 quart rubbermaid containers with lidsand a digital postal scale. Zero scale with the tote on it. Put quail in and quickly close lid. Works great.
Anyone? I know jumbos are supposed to be up to a pound. But, whose ever actually had a 16 oz bird. I want to know if I should be happy with a couple 12 oz hens out of 40 hens or should I be looking for new stock. If so, who has birds that are bigger than my 12 ouncers
I weighed my 9 week old coturnix this weekend. Out of 40. I had 2 hens weigh 12.5 ounces and a couple roos weigh 9.6 ounces. The rest were smaller with a few 11 ounce hens and most of the roos weighing 8 ounces. My question is, what is considered a nice jumbo. Are mine undersized or average...
