So the day you got a 4th layer, I did, too. But I haven't had a 4-egg day yet since they didn't all lay yesterday. So excited for you! Love the blue egg! Great anniversary gift. Better than the dead mouse I got for my birthday from my cat.

Scrambles, I got them off Etsy. There are 2-egg, 3-egg and 4-egg cartons. The shipping was high (from S.Korea) but couldn't resist, and I also couldn't find them anywhere else. Got the ones for 3 and 4 eggs cause that's all I'm able to give away with just 4 chickens.

I heard about that earthquake, yikes! All four girls are finally laying. For those who are anxiously waiting your first egg, it will happen! Mine were 21 weeks for the first, then around the 23rd week for the rest. Today my Easter Egger finally laid her first egg, and it's huge! 62 grams!

Lucy laid her 12th egg in a row this morning. Still nothing from the others... Almost 23 weeks old. Editing this to say I just found another small egg, finally! It's light brown/tan, so I assume it's the Australorp. My others are an EE and a Marans, so I'm thinking theirs will be different...

I should have said, "gather" more than one egg a day. I know a chicken lays roughly every 24 hours, unless a weird event like an incomplete egg falls out sooner. I'm tired of gathering "egg", I need more!

OMG you got 4 in one day! I simply can't imagine that. It's really getting hot here, upper 90's, so that may delay the others laying. I keep expecting Lucy to take a day off, but not so far. I predicted another would lay by tomorrow, maybe not.

Makes sense! I didn't realize a shell-less egg was from a too-quick trip down the egg pipe - interesting! When all mine are laying, I plan to switch to the layer feed. In the meantime, I'll use grower feed plus free choice calcium. They supplement with free-ranging for bugs, worms, weeds, etc.

I've wondered about the whole calcium thing, too, regarding how necessary it really is. It seems a chicken with a decent diet ought to be getting enough calcium for an egg. I've been checking all in the the coop for ANY kind of egg from the other three, soft, broken, etc. Nothing yet...

I know first eggs can be funky...but do they get some extra calcium, like oyster shell? I can't use layer feed yet since they aren't all laying, but I throw some oyster shell in their feed and I've seen Lucy pick it out. Just a thought - I'm sure eggs can be rubbery at first even with enough...
