Some of you may remember me when I started out my top bar give a couple months ago. I wanted to update with this pic. They are already filled their first section and I am getting ready to expand it for them.
Well I checked yesterday to see if the queen had been released. I had waited for a little too long I think, about 8 days, because I really wanted to make sure she was out. When I opened the hive, I was greeted with good news and bad news. The good news is she was out. There were still a couple...
Well, I bought the bees today. A 3 lb package of Italian honeybees. Getting them in was an adventure(to say the least). It was kinda stressful, since I am a newbie beekeeper, but luckily the man we got them from was very knowledgeable and told us exactly what to do. It was fun, too, though...
Thanks a lot! I will have to look into insulation, I didn't have anything like that from the company I bought it from. Is it possible to fit a sheet of insulation from home depot or something in there?
It is all assembled, i stained the stand, roof, and body separately though, that is why it is apart. All the assembly is done. The fact that all the pieces are precut and drilled make it so much easier.
Oh, thats disappointing. I guess its better than blowing $650. I don't really know a thing about beekeeping so i wouldn't have guessed that. Seems like it would work. But i guess with anything, it is never truly hassle free.
I don't have bees yet but I really would like to get one of these: http://www.honeyflow.com
They look great and hassle free. If only they were cheaper!
