Another feeder idea

I have been using the PVC/bucket set up and haven't had any luck with preventing large amounts of feed being wasted. Here is the original set up:

As you can see the floor is covered with feed.

I went to this set up:

This is a 30lb. hanging feeder with a rubber bucket underneath. The feeder sits approximately 1" down into the bucket and the bucket is approximately 1" larger around the circumference of the feeder base. No more wasted feed!!

The feed ends up in the bucket instead of all over the floor. You can then put it back into the feeder.


Here is a picture of the floor after 20+ chickens fed for 15 minutes or so. I swept the floor before they started eating.

No feed on the floor!!
The feeder and bucket cost around $40 at tractor supply. It's important that the bucket diameter isn't more than 1" - 2" larger in diameter than the base of the feeder. Also the feeder needs to be set at least 1" into the bucket.
