If I didn't see it for myself I wouldn't believe it

One of my chickens (first lay as far as I know) laid 2 eggs with no shell surged together. I took a couple pictures, if you look closely you can see where it's joined. And yes, I am sure they were joined together. When I broke open the one that didn't break before I got to them the whites didn't come out freely. I had to literally break it off near where the 2 eggs joined. It was fertile too. Not like I could have hatched it, but I thought that was pretty interesting. I have no idea if the other was or not since it was pretty empty and the contents went into the straw. Anyone know why this might have happened? Premature lay? Stress? I don't know of anything really stressing them out except the attempted hawk attack the other day (failed, I have it covered pretty well now for sure).



 
It's very, very common for newly laying pullets to lay shell-less eggs, even if they have calcium available. It can take several weeks for all the parts of their egg laying system to start working together on a regular basis.

No, the 'siamese eggs' is not common, but not unprecedented either.
Probably just a new later glitch tho, unless it continues to happen numerous times.

What age and breed is this bird?
 
I'm not sure which one of my girls laid it (no laying song or anything). It was either my buff oprington, a cuckoo cochin, or one of the golden sex links, but I was leaning more toward my buff or cochin (the inner linine was a creamy tannish color). I figured it's probably a new layer glitch, but I thought it was really odd/neat that it was 2 completely surged together! It looks like what happened was whenever they were forming they didn't completely separate and close off, so there was a "tube" in the middle that was open between the 2 eggs. So maybe a premature lay for some reason?

One of them laid one yesterday for the first time and it was perfect. Complete shell, nice coloring, speckling. It was a little on the small side, but perfect in every other way.
