Heated Water Bowl--Safe with extension Cord???

OK, I have a new 1 Qt heated water bowl, 25 watts with thermostatic plug from Farm Innovators. Plan was to hook it to extension cord and run it to the coop for the winter--didn't get a line buried before the ground froze. Cord will be in PVC pipe. Sticker on bowl says " do not use with extension cord"

Yeah so I don't want to because I always follow all directions at all times

, but DH says no big deal, they have to say that, and it's only 25 watts. What do y'all think?
 
Well, you may have no choice, so be sure to use one with an outdoor rating. We do that in the barn even though we might use one indoors because the place is unheated. You can also put a clean rock like granite in the bowl to keep it steady if that becomes an issue.

They mean not to use them with household extension cords. The ones that look like a lamp cord. Get a good construction grade drop cord no longer than you need an hang the connection points of the ground an out of the weather.
 
Here is what I did to get power to my coop until next year in the spring,
I ran a heavyduty 12/3 extension from the front porch outlet and where the cords hooked together I put the connecting cords in a drainage pipe elbow to keep the connection out of the elements, there has been rain and snow aroun since I did this and it has not popped the GFI it is on. There is two of these running through our yard with two connection elbows.

And here is how I am going to keep there water from freezing with little electric usage. I took one of our old $3.00 waterers and used the top which is what holds the water and drilled a 1 inch hole ontop to be able to hang the waterer once finished and drilled a 1 inch hole in the side near the top and put one of them on-off little electric sockets and put a 4 watt night light bulb in the hole and here it is.

Well I actuall just did the water thing today but if it still freezes with the 4 watt bulb I'll just put a bigger watt bulb in there which means more heat. I'll let ya know.

OK, so we'll get an outdoor cord, already have one I think and run it thru the PVC.

Rebelcowboy: Being a Yankee and all, I never learned about the Independent State of Dade--I'll have to look that up on a map. However, I did marry a rebel so there's hope for me yet

Funonahonda: Neat set up--that should work well Let us know if the 4 watt bulb is enough when it's really cold
 
we use an extension cord...we have no choice this winter...i'm hoping it will be safe...
