Tapeworms that won't go away!

I have 9 adult ladies that have had tapeworms for about 3 months now. My neighbor suggested Ivermectin Pour-on for cattle, so I rushed out and got some. I gathered them all up and dosed (orally) as many as I could grab. They hated it!! Then after re-reading the instructions I discovered that it is a topical. It's a wonder I didn't kill them! So needless to say, I'm a bit gun shy about worming them. I also have used Wazine. Worms seem to come and go but are never truly gone. I now have (4) 2 month olds who are segregated from the adults but I just notice that they too have tapes... I read (here on BYC) that tapes generally are not harmful, just really gross. I just want to get rid of them for good!

Wazine wont kill tapes. You need to use Zimectrin Gold paste.
 
And yes they are harmful. Parasites that live in the intestines eat the food the bird consumes, slowly starving the bird. Eventually the worms can multiply to epic proportions rupturing the intestines killing the bird. So it is important to get rid of these things. :)
 
I'm a relatively new chicken master- moved from the city to the country and started with chickens 3 years ago. I refuse to go see my overpriced crooked vet for help because it would be no less than $200 so I look to these forums for sound advise; and for the most part it has helped a lot. So if I can get over-the-counter meds, how do I dose for an averaged size amaucana and barred-rock?

Lol, hardly an expert! Most cost effective way to treat tapes is with Equimax Paste for horses. Dose is 0.03 ml per pound orally and repeat in 10 days (6 pound bird would get ~0.2 ml, which is 1/5 ml).

One can also use Zimectrin Gold, but you have to use much more of it, so it ends up being more expensive. Dose is 0.06 ml per pound orally and repeat in 10 days (6 pound bird would get ~0.35 ml).

Welcome to BYC! UC Davis will do inexpensive fecals, so keep that in mind as an option.

Buy a tube of Equimax paste, find a way to weigh them, or guess at their weight, multiply their weight in pounds by 0.03 and then give that amount orally with a 1 ml needless syringe.

The medication needed to treat tapes is praziquantel, and the amount needed is 4.54 mg per pound, which is what I calculated the horse paste dose to. Another option is Something called Wormout Gel. It has praziquantel and Oxfendazole and will treat all but gapeworms. It's expensive, but probably very effective if given orally:

Dose is 0.23 ml per pound orally. The site doesn't mention giving it again in 10 days, but I think one probably should.

None of the drugs mentioned are approved for use in laying hens. They aren't banned, they just aren't approved.

The dosage Casportpony gives for Equimax is 0.03 ml per pound. For a 6 pound bird give 0.18 to 0.2 ml. In this picture of a 1 ml syringe, it shows 0.26ml, more than the dosage for an 8 pound chicken:
