Does anyone know what this is?

My guess is that it's a piece of intestinal lining that wore off. It isn't anything to be worried about, unless you see them often. It is safe to eat, but still,

You can cook it and give it back to the girls as a treat. I know it sounds gross, but chickens are cannibals, and they love eggs. Giving them eggs once in awhile can be a good protein boost for them, too.

Hope this helps, and

Welcome to BYC!

Looks more like a 'lash egg' than piece of tissue from reproductive system.
Would be very rare for shed intestinal lining to end up inside an egg.

Was it in shell with that yolk?
Did you dissect lump further...slice in half to see inside??

Can be funky things in eggs, (blood spots, meat spots, blood).
All fairly common and of no concern unless they happen frequently.
Will make you break each egg into separate bowl before adding to pan or recipe for awhile.
If they do happen frequently, need to ID bird and isolate for observation.

Great pic BTW.

I should have disected it but I was very grossed out at the time. It was in the egg white not attached to the yolk. Just laid that day.

Well, maybe next time...if there is one, hopefully not.

Interesting that it was inside an egg, usually lash eggs are expelled by themselves and found in the nest.

I found one this morning and was so grossed out I’m still gagging. This was my last source of animal I was eating and swore it off today.

I had a really large egg today that I expected to be a double, but think maybe it had a lash egg inside. The picture is just from one egg, including a yolk and a weird egg shaped mass. I didn't think to dissect it unfortunately.

Y'all have got to understand anything that has a reproductive system that produces pretty much every single day is bound to have a hiccup or two.
If you research chickens were never ment to produce this way in fact jungle fowl only lay when there is plentiful food.
Spots and chunks are the price you pay to have eggs everyday.
Yes they're gross, but that hen is literally working her butt off so remember that.:)

Lash eggs are caused by an infection in the hens reproductive system.
And if that egg were to have been a fertilized double to have that much solid matter the egg would have to be quite old and that would have been a Quasimodo looking chick.;)
so, do you think lashes happen inside of eggs, or could it have been a double in which one was fertilized?
