Ive been trying to nurse my injured hen back to health. She had a broken leg & weve tried everything. Eventually, it healed up & she began walking on it. After a little while of her being inside, we felt she was ready to live outside with her friends. Now, after about a month or two of her being out, her leg has gotten worse. It is now completely backwards & she walks in circles. When It rains, she stays out in the rain. I cant see her suffer anymore, but I know that emotionally & physically - i cannot handle culling her myself. I dont want to be the one to personally kill her. I couldnt live with myself. I just want to know, if theres any way to do it with out breaking her neck or chopping her head off.. I would really love it if she just fell asleep & died in her sleep.. ? Maybe theres someone in my area that can cull her for me ?!? Im in Central NJ..

Mods, If this is in the wrong spot, please move it. Thanks !

I'm sorry you have to do this, I remember your posts when she first was injured. I am going through a similar dilemma with a 7 week old chick... I look forward to any answers you get as I'm not comfortable with the options you mentioned either.

I'm sorry this is happening if you can't handle culling her i would get someone to do it for you.

I have only used the 2 you mentioned as it's the quickest way so they don't suffer.
I have read here some put them in bags to suffocate i find that to be cruel.

You might could get a local vet to put her to sleep

Maybe I could get the shelter down the road from me to do it. A friend of mine has her license to euthanize dogs, so maybe she could get the stuff for me so she can do it. Not sure if it would work the same way. I couldnt suffocate her though.. No way..

I just did this about a week ago. I used a old cooler filled it with a bottle of peroxide and a box of baking soda and put a wire floor at the bottom so she wouldn't be getting all wet and put a nice soft towl and shut the top and she just fell asleep. Im sorry about your girl
