Bay Area BYCers!

"According to the bill, it does not apply to a person who keeps or raises roosters for the purpose of food production, a public or private school registered with the state, a government-operated animal shelter, a nonprofit animal welfare organization or the Future Farmers of America or the State Grange project."

It seems like they're trying to target cockfighting but with the stated exclusions it'll probably have a negative impact on hatcheries if it goes through as is?

Hello everyone! I’m currently located in concord and have been keeping backyard chickens for seven years. I have 15 birds at the moment, although that may change soon as I suspect one of my chicks may be a cockerel.

I’ve kept exclusively standard size hens until recently. Once my bantams grow out of their brooder I plan to mix my flock as my Orpington is very protective of smaller chickens and is great at breaking up fights.

I have mostly mixed breeds aside from two of my rescue hens and my four bantam cochin chicks.

I made this account years ago and pretty much forgot about it, but I plan to be more active here in the future!

Hello Bay Area folks!
I have 3 young roosters in need of a new home. One Golden laced Wyandotte and two Delaware Heritage breed, all hatched at the end of March and hand-raised. They've just started crowing in the last few weeks. They're well socialized with people, kids, dogs & cats. I'm located in East Oakland, but can deliver them nearby in the Bay Area.
Please let me know if you're interested or have a recommendation.

I would take them, but I’m overloaded with roosters at this time. This is Mr Wyandottey, one of my many beautiful roosters:

When I was trying to rehome a rooster I had some success posting on Facebook, there are several groups just for rehoming roosters in the Bay area and NorCal
