These three little ones are 2.5 weeks old. We suspect that the one we have named Jack is a roo. Tell me what you think!

I posted the same question a couple days ago in the Raising Chicks forum, before I found the breed/gender thread. So if you've already looked at my chicks, sorry for the double posting!

Here is Alice's face and body.

Here is Carrot's face and body.

And here is Jack

And here are all 3 together. You can see that Jack is bigger. He's the one on the right in the front.

All 3 are very friendly, but Jack is the most curious and is the only one of my 11 chicks who doesn't seem the least bit fazed when I reach into their brooder. I guess only time will tell, but I'd love to know if possible. Thanks!

Hmmm. I was told they were light. They looked just like the light brahma chicks on feathersite when they were super tiny. Maybe not, though.

i have to agree, all the light brahmas ive seen, and the ones i have right now are a yellowy white chick. then the black and white wing feathers start comming in. but those are too dark and too orangey browny to be light bhramas, they are dark brahmas.

Nope, not dark brahmas. They are lights. Dark brahma chicks look nothing like light or buff brahma chicks. Dark brahmas feather in completely different. They (the darks) look like little chipmunks.
Too early to tell sex. Is one feathering in less across the wing bows (shoulders)? If so, that'll be your roo.
I'll go to my photobucket account now and see if I can find a pic of a dark brahma chick for you, but trust me; yours are lights.

This is a dark brahma chick:

ok, ill say 1 lb out of the bunch, but look at the others, especially the one, he is very very dark on the back, lb chicks dont have any dark splotches on them like that. now that i look at the pictures again, i think its actually gray or black all over the back, not just darker orange like i thought, so what we have here are yellow chicks that look like a brahma but have a black or grey back and head, and that is NOT what a light brahma looks like. give me a minute and ill post pics of my 2 week old light brahma chicks.

Honestly, it depends on what hatchery they came from. My lights are well-marked, except for one who has quite a bit of black on her. My darks are very nice. In fact, two are show quality; including my roo. All my buffs are nicely marked but one.
I've heard/read that McMurray has poor quality light brahmas.

I don't know what hatchery they came from. I bought them from a local woman who raises chicks. She said my EE chicks were from a hatchery, but I think these she hatched herself. 10 days ago when I got them I didn't know 1/10th of what I know now thanks to BYC, so I'm kicking myself that I didn't ask more about what they are and where they came from! I'm not concerned about show quality or anything like that--mostly I want friendly chickens (and so far they are by far my friendliest chicks) who lay nice eggs.

The one who I suspect is a roo has always had a very strong contrast between his light and dark spots. There is one (Alice) who is quite a bit lighter than the other two and the other (Carrot) has gotten grayer as she's gotten older.

Here is a pic when they were just a couple days old. The lightest one is on the feeder, the other pullet Brahma is top left corner, and roo (?) Brahma is top right corner.

Here is the different Brahma chicks from feathersite. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Brahma/BRKBrChix.html Mine look most like the light brahmas, but mine are not as yellow as those are.

He/she does seem to have a different stance than the other two, but it still is really too early to tell.
Another week and I'll bet the differences really stand out.
Brahmas are all I have (for now). You'll love them. Friendly, calm birds. Great winter egg layers; especially in their first year.
