Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

At this point, I don't have a bird with Cornish blood that I intend to slaughter. IMO even the worst could be used to add Cornish type to a flock of hatchery Cornish.

I got to looking at a young DC chick that was staying far far shorter than the others as they grew. I finally seperated her to the cage with your bantam pullet; I think he was wrong when he said he hadn't had a bantam hatch this year.

You can bet on that, I think Brian said there was more K Herring blood in his, but with a slightly longer shank. Ken & Lewis also traded often, Ken's wife told me of some very nice stories of those two and their little secret endeavors LOL, those two were the Kings at the time for so many years. We could only dream to live in half their shoes. Your Dad however should be in the thick of those goings on as well am I right.

If I knew one tenth of what Lewis Strait knew about breeding and raising Cornish I'd be sitting pretty good. I wish I would have paid more attention when I was a kid listening to Lewy, Charlie Hurd, and some of the old timers when they got to shooting the bull.

Here's a couple pics for Steve and big med... The blueish k bird, is from bm's project, hatched by SteveH. I think he's got real potential. Sorry, this is the best pic I can get of him= he's so dang wild and always in the rear behind the penmates. We transfered them to the bigger pen last weekend, so maybe after I get home Thur from my business trip= I'll get a better pic.

The DC trio is some bantam birds, that are also very neat, and built exactly like I want to make my LF birds. They are a few weeks away from laying. Sounds like I have plans to add another bird or two to this pen...

So, I got the "dreaded" call from the vet today. The GOOD news is that the birds do not have any really horrible virus that we have to cull for. They did all the tests on the baddies, and they came out negative. They think it is some bird thing from a wild bird.

Soooo, once the ones in isolation recover (IF they recover) they can go back outside with the flock. I have lost 3 so far, plus one for necropsy and one that isn't getting better) Hopefully the remaining birds will get over it - keeping fingers crossed, and toes too. I'm so thankful. Sadly, it was the best birds - isn't it always the way.

There's always next year

Not sure what to make of the color of that cockerel. He's blue. Does he show much red ? How about his chest ? Looks to be single laced. I'd like to see some more shots of him, if possible. That's half the fun with a project like this, sometimes you just roll the dice and see what you get.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

There are so many side projects a person could take off with that come up in projects like this. A dream situation would be to hook up with a multi millionaire with an interest in such things, have the buildings, and staff to handle all this, and be the resident mad scientist.

I thought he had much more red on him when I had him. I do like the black laced blue feathers though, and remembered just noticeing the color of his chest as you drove up the drive; if I had thought he was blue before right at that moment, you would have gotten another.
