Hello,
Tried searching for a method to securely attach hardware cloth to chain link (dog run).
I know i saw something somewhere here but i was unable to locate it.
Any tips would be appreciated!

We used the black zip ties because they are UV resistant and should last a little longer. My DH wanted to use wire, but I knew that I'd be the one to get it started & I didn't feel like twisting that many wire ties...especially after putting together the chain link run by myself. I figure that the zip ties can at least hold it in place if we need to add wire later on. Here's a pic of our run with the girls:

The run is 6 foot tall & we cut 8 foot sections of hardware cloth--6' to cover the run and 2' to apron out on the ground. We staked it down & ran gravel over the top to keep out the bad guys.

One option is to use reasonable-gauge galvanized wire (like you'd use for electric fences, or as previous poster says you could use bits lying around), either using it to 'sew' the hardwarecloth on, or using short pieces as twist-ties (be careful of the poky ends though).

The other option is to use zip-ties (cable ties), preferably the black ones as they will withstand more years of UV exposure than the white/translucent ones. I would never ever suggest using these to hold your primary fence together, but since the only point of hardwarecloth is to prevent reach-through incidents it would not be the end of the world if an animal did happen to yank the hardwarecloth off; you just want it to stay in place under ordinary circumstances, so the zip-ties are fine.

GOod luck, have fun,

Pat

Thanks for your replies!
I'll probably use a combination of zips and baling wire.
I was going to bury hardware cloth 10" or so deep straight down from chain link and bend 10" or so out . Is that far enough?
Tons of roots... really hard digging!
Thanks again!
Gary

I'm also doing the same setup and was wondering the same thing. Is there a specific reason why you chose to do hardware cloth the whole way up the fence? I was considering just doing the bottom 3.5 ft of the enclosure to keep the raccoons from reaching through, but if there is something I should know about maybe I should do the entire height as well. Also how big is you dog kennel? I have a 6x12 enclosure right now for 4 hens, and I'm hoping that is big enough.
