How to cure anemia in a chicken? HELP!

My rooster companion has chronic anemia diagnosed about 3 or 4 years ago (he just passed his 9th birthday). When I see he's getting sluggish and sleeping a lot, I take him to the vet for blood work to make sure it is anemia. That trip to the vet can happen 3 or 4 times a year - his is a chronic condition but your bird may have an acute condition. I then give him Pet-Tinic which is readily available over the net. He weighs in at 3.85 to 3.90kg and the vet said I could give him a dose of up to 11cc of Pet-Tinic once and only once (you could fatally O.D. on iron). But I've found that would be WAY too much for him, causing diarrhea. He can take about 2.5 to 3.0cc which I give to him on consecutive days for a total of 5 to 6cc. The Pet-Tinic can be administered with either a syringe and tube down the throat or mixed with ground beef which is pushed down the throat - I must insure he gets it into him. He was diagnosed this AM after blood was taken yesterday, he got his 2.5cc of Pet-Tinic about noon today and now 6 hours later, he's awake, preening, eating, though still tired looking, and from experience, with tomorrow's repeat dosing, he'll be strutting like the king of the roost he is. I just now saw your post, a mere year and a half late, but I do hope it helps someone with the same problem. BTW, good, fresh ground beef is a regular part of his diet and so I don't think his anemia is diet oriented. Your bird may be different.
